Great location and well maintained site. Good base to see NW highlands. Trip down to bays a little rugged but well worth the effort. Would keep control of kids and pets as bottom of site is next to a clif edge.

Stayed here in June 2010 for 3 days, would have stayed longer if we could! Lovely site with fantastic views and gorgeous sandy beaches just down the cliffs, a steep drop if you are (like us) too lazy to walk further round. Campers shelter was great, toilets and showers excellent, service and staff very good and in an excellent location, with plenty to see and do nearby. My only regret is that we had the dog with us so couldn't take the boat trip into Smoo cave (to be fair, I didn't ask, just presumed dog + row boat wasn't a great idea!). Great area for walks, we took a disposable BBQ down to the beach one night for our dinner and spend many hours just watching the waves. Nice local craft shops and winery nearby. The drive from Ullapool is nowhere near as difficult as you would expect, so don't hesitate to visit this lovely site. can't wait to go back with our toddler, although may need to peg her to the gournd with a length or rope, the same as we did for the dog!

This was the best part of our holiday; the view is stunning, the beaches magical and the waves warm. The showers were clean despite the fact that so many people were staying there. The camping was great and the staff were kind friendly and helpful. Apart from the fact our hired campervan was quite small and that my brother snored it was the best holiday ever. My family loved writing and drawing in the sand. the rocks were great for climbing and the weather was fabulous. The path in the sand down the cliff to the beach was hard for disabled people to get down. The shop sold fresh fruit, ice-cream, poultry,post-cards,post box, stamps and freezer food. It was located around 40yds of site. There is a brilliant cave walk with tours in boat of the tunnels and cliff-side trail about a mile and a half away. I would recomend camping here.

A fantastic site. Very windy but I managed to find a location sheltered by the utility block and had a great nihts kip! There is loads of flat grass which seems well drained to pitch on. The services are very clean and there are more thasn enough. The camp kitchen is great, with free gas and built in stoves. Especially good given the weather when I was there! The bar and restaurant are very good and recommended. Overall great value and location.

Great location, next stop if you head north is the north pole. Bar restaurant on site. Utterly full of German camper vans when we were there. We nearly got blown away during the night but have happy memories.

Brilliant site! Superb location and facilities and there's plently to see in the area. Spar is pretty well stocked though more expensive than further south in Ullapool and there's a rather nice Tardis-like store that is worth a visit.

This is a beautiful little site overlooking the Sango Sands bay with an excellent restaurant a minute's walk away and a Spa shop a minute's walk in the other direction. The facilities are clean and well maintained. It is an informal site with an easy going feel to it whilst providing everything that a camper would need. I would recommend this lovely little place to anyone.

This was the first stop in our new motor home and it was a delightful experience. Having come from an equally beautiful place (the Isle of Lewis) it was wonderful to find such a relaxed, friendly and idyllic place to spend a couple of nights whilst touring the Highlands. The site itself is clean and beautifully located. The showers and facilities were excellent. There is a superb inn a couple fo yards off the site where we were able to get good conversation, excellent service and the best meal we've had in a long time. Really good value for money. There is a Spa shop also a few yeards off site which provides all needs for the tourist and the camper. The local interest shops, art gallery and pottery were well appointed and a pleasant way to spend an hour browsing. Can't wait to go back to Sango Sands. I would reccommed it to any one. Well done Durness.

We have stayed at this site twice now and love it. It is in a wonderful location - on top of the cliff overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches. It is a quiet site with just a reception on site and usual facilities. Toilets and showers(free) are all spotless, lady in reception really friendly and helpful and it is excellent value for money - only £11 for two of us in our camper per night. there is a spa shop just a few minutes walk away, a fuel station which also sells camping gas opposite and next door to the camp site is a bar/restaurant. Perfect. Will definatly be returning and the drive there on the single track road is well worth it. Would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone looking for the opposite to holiday parks!!

Durness 2nd year
Just back from another great stay at Sango Sands. The location and facilities are spot on. The site owner is very helpful. Just going to sleep with the sound of the surf is paradise. Oasis bar is great and the restaurant serves excellent and good value meals. Well recommended. Looking forward to our main holiday at Sango Sands next year. All the best to the staff.

Spent 3 nights here from 21st July. The site has a lovely location on cliffs above two beautiful beaches, although these have a steep descent to them...someone mentioned that there used to be steps down but these are no longer there. The facilities on site are good with plenty toilets, showers, laundrey, dishwashing area and indoor cooking area when weather is bad. The site was very busy which meant that the toilet area ran out of hand paper by the evening. Just a small request that a mop bucket with cleaner in it would be good to have in the shower area to mop around after use as we have been on ohter sites that have this. There is a tourist information building next to the site and a pub restaurant. The well stocked Spar is also next to the site but be aware that this closes at 6 ish. We enjoyed our stay despite the weather. Balnakeil is also worth a visit with a beautiful beach to walk along.

On cliffs overlooking the sea at Durness. Very exposed but stunning location. Can access beach via steps near Tourist Info Center or straight from the cliff if you're feeling agile! Award winning beach is absolutely stunning - golden sand interspersed with great black rocks at low tide. You feel like you're walking in nature's sculpture park! Facilities OK but not great. Good mobile and internet reception. Smoo Cave and easy walk from the site.

Beuatiful location, fantastic scenery, amazing beach. It was really windy and cold while we were there but I imagine that it would be stunning on a sunny day. Showers were hot and clean, toilets were well maintained. We'd recommend a visit.

Just returned from my maiden solo caravan trip to Durness - the site couldn't have been more helpful. Showers and loos have been upgraded. As others have written, the views are stupendous. The atmosphere is relaxed. I'll be back...

Free to stay in December 2008 if no electricity required. Otherwise it would be £5. Being on the top of a cliff and north facing it is very exposed to winds from that quarter and a north-easterly gale with snow forecast meant I didn't stay very long. Great location, lovely village, worth the journey.

You choose this site for the view. Amazing views of the N coast of Scotland. Very relaxed atmosphere: just pitch up pay later. Good indoor facilities for campers, including free gas. Plenty of showers but water pressure not great. Pub/restaurant next door that serves good bar meals at very reasonable prices. Right next to Spar which is very handy. Near to Smoo Cave and boat/minibus trip to Cape Wrath. Great beach for kids of all ages!! Visit to Cocoa Mountain near by is recommended

I have read most of the reviews for this campsite and cannot add anything much that hasn't already been said. Excellent value for money on site and in the adjoining bar/restuarant. Facilities were all good and all that was needed. Staff were really friendly and happy to help, especially with the high winds that we experienced on our visit mid July. No problems with size of our tent and we didn't feel that we were surrounded with other units, unlike another campsite visited during our holiday. Views over the bay and the beach below are breath taking. We would recommend a visit to anyone who is venturing near Cape Wrath to stay at Sango Sands.

Fantastic site at Durness overlooking the most breathtaking beaches. Plenty space for tents however be careful where you pitch as the winds can be strong!!! Very helpful and friendly owner. Relaxed and laid back atmosphere. Plenty hot water and although site was busy we never needed to Q for the showers. Local pub is only a couple of minutes away and the restaurant next door offers good food at reasonable prices. Local Spar shop only 500 meters providing the essentials. We arrived in time for the Durness Highland Games which take place in the field next to the campsite and they are a must (last Friday in July) - what a day - rounded off perfectly with a dance in the village hall. The local people were so friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back next year - well worth the journey up the single track roads - you will not be disappointed.

Great site on the cliff top at Durness. Very friendly welcome and helpful warden. Adequate facilities with plenty of hot water and free showers, although showers could have been cleaner. Beach below the site is large and beautiful. Smoo cave tour was brilliant, would recommend a visit.

Great campsite with warm welcome. Showers are hot and free. Depending on how busy you can pitch anywhere, there is a campers kitchen with gas stoves which is fully enclosed which can be a godsend as the wind can really get up with its fantastic location over looking the atlantic. Can be busy with German backpackers so showers can be busy. There is a pub and restaurant on site which are great value for money. The village has also got quite a nice few places to eat. There is a cash machine at the village shop. Some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen all along the coastline. A visit to smoo cave is also recommended.

This is an excellent campsite. Set in one of the most stunning locations in the highlands, it offers some of the best facilities I have found at a campsite. The showers are hot and free, the kitchen has free gas rings and there is a pub and restaurant onsite. Highly recommended. If you have a big or cheap lightweight tent then beware of where you pitch it. The winds in this part of the country can be very strong and you might lose pegs and poles! If you have a tough tent then camp at the top of the cliff for amazing views!

Visited 3 nights in June and parked caravan on cliff edge with views over lovely sandy bay and turquoise sea to die for, access to beach via steps on site. Informal site with adequate facilities, staff friendly when around. Spar 500 yards away well stocked, (petrol was ?1.19 litre). Apart from the stunning location there is a lovely wilderness feel when around the area. If thats for you just go at least once in a lifetime.

Every year we drag our caravan northward to this site. We love it the views, the walks, everything about the place. Toilets and showers are okay, caravans and motorhomes can pitch right on the cliff edge and with out doubt get the best views you will ever see thru your window. Loads of room for tents and for some reason very popular with Germans.
