Dalraddy Holiday Park Aviemore
This was our first time camping with a young child and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it (even if the weather wasn't perfect). The pitches for tents were excellent with a communal pitch for tents or more individual pitches with small trees between them which added some privacy. There were toilets located close by and the shower block and wash up facilities were superb, very clean with lots of hot water. While the play area for kids was good it did get busy with a lot of kids on site so a bit too busy for our 3 year old. We definetely intend to return in the future.

I'd recommend this site to any family. The tent area was large and had lovely views. It's a very family oriented site with lots of kids playing, but not a lot of noise and disturbance, so easy to sleep at night too. A couple of negatives were that there seemed to be a problem with the hot water supply so it seemed quite random, although I did overhear someone discussing problems with the boiler, so we may have just been unlucky. Other than that, the washing up area only has 2 sinks, so at dinner time there was a queue to wash up. And - a negative for me travelling with 4 kids - the shop only stocked 500ml bottles of milk, not 1l bottles, seemed strange with so many families in. Back to the positives - The tent area has portable toilets for those late night trips with the kids and the main toilet block is just a few minutes walk - it's clean and warm and well maintained. We will definitely be back. The site doesn't take tent bookings, but as you don't have to be off until 11am, there's no rush to get there first thing in the morning. Although at the height of summer it was usually full by late afternoon. We arrived at 1.30pm and got a spot comfortably with more arrivals over the next few hours. So don't arrive too late.

Just a few miles south of Aviemeore, Dalraddy is a great place to spend a few days. They don't take advance bookings for camping so you have to turn up on the morning but there are plenty of pitches available. Most of the pitches are in seperate areas so that you have the feeling of being away from everyone else whilst still having great facilities. There is plenty for kids to do and the new shower block has a plentiful supply of hot water. If you are coming to Aviemore, then Dalraddy is definately the place to stay.

Nice site located a few miles to the south of Aviemore. There are two camping areas available, one main round area and bays situated amongst sapling pine trees. The bays are in my opinion the best bet, but be aware they are much further from the shower/toilet block. The capming areas feel like they are an afterthought as they are very far from the site facilities and lack the benefit of even a standpipe for water. All in all not a bad site, the showers are new, clean and heated. The bays are nicely spaced and level. There is also a small childrens play area.

(note toilet block upgraded in early 2008) ok... apart from the toilets and showers being in need of a lick of paint, and the odd patch of mildew on the ceiling near the shower areas needing a bit of a going over, this site was great! Being hardened campers this didn't bother us as the site had everything we wanted. It is a quiet site which has picturesque mountain views. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble, the shop on site sold most essentials at a reasonable price. The pitches were of a very good size, we had a five and a three man tent in our bay and could have fitted the same in again as well as parking for the car.The location was great for everything. It is only a 5 min drive to the centre of Aviemore were a whole range of activities can be sort. I would highly recommend the indoor climbing wall in Aviemore, these lads and lassies were fab! They also have excursions to do all kinds of activities so check it out. Tesco's is also in the centre of the town which comes in handy! Overall we loved it and will definately return next year!

We stayed four nights in early November 2006. This is a large, though fairly well laid out site with young and mature birch trees helping provide some feeling of privacy. The majority of the site is given over to static caravans and touring pitches are in a minority though there is an area set aside for tents and slightly detached from the main part of the site. The site was very quiet when we stayed, but I would imagine that during holiday periods it could be quite busy. The site is well situated for low level walking and cycling. Fishing on Loch Alvie and the river Spey is available and the site is the start/finish of the Badenoch Way. We enjoyed the late autumn colours of the oak, birch, larch and pine woods that are within very easy reach of the site. A nice base from which to explore the local area. (note toilet block upgraded in early 2008) We found the toilet/shower block to be ok and well cleaned, though a bit utilitarian and in need of a fresh coat of paint. Showers cost 20p for 2 minutes. No soap dispensers at the hand basins (rather surprised us!). A torch is really required at night as on site lighting isn’t all that great and the large lamp on a tall pole outside the toilet block was out when we visited. Site staff were very helpful and friendly. Would we return? Possibly, if only for the autumn colours along the Spey and for the easy off-road cycling.

(note toilet block upgraded in early 2008) Generally a nice clean site located just outside aviemore. Dog friendly with small kids playpark. Unmarked pitches in field separated from the caravans. Toilets average, showers poor. lovely views of the surrounding hills. Good base for walking.
