I was a day visitor to this site and it is in a beautiful location, the beach is just wonderful and can beat anything abroad! The views are breathtaking. Facilities on site are in need of updating and tidying up and the customer service aspect can be improved upon, but the location is first class and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Perfect if you are into water-sports!

Visited this site in June 2011 which was our third time in 3 years. The location is stunning with amazing views of Suilven, and the beach next to the site is truly magical. The facilities are a bit tired and in need of updating. Hope the chippy and the site shop re-open soon.

Lovely spot, beach and campsite are both great. Stayed both here and Clachtoll. Going to be a bit of a job deciding which one to go to when we come back to this area!

I was introduced to Achmelvich at Easter 2001 and have been in love with the place ever since. We even spent the second week of our honeymoon there. We have always stayed in one of the static caravans and found the facilities in them excellent. The only thing that prevents us from staying there now that we have a small motor home is the no dog rule. We now go up to Clachtoll instead.

I desperately want to go back! Its been a few years unfortunately. i've been going ever since i can remember. my great grandparents lived there, so its been a family holiday destination since well....long before i was born! It has without a doubt some of the most beautiful scenery in scotland.(and thats saying something.) Suilven and Canisp are an amazing backdrop to this camp site. lochinver is a quaint harbour village and has everything you should need or want from your holiday. on a good day it can feel as if your somewhere in the med! oh and if your lucky you might just see seals and dolphins! wow!

Hello All, As a hillwalker I have been visiting this gorgeous area of Scotland (Assynt) for nearly 20 years. The annual pilgrimage from London (14hr drive!) is well worth it, as the coastal scenery around Achmelvich campsite is breathtaking-the beaches are crystal clear with the most dazzling colours, together with superb sunsets! :-) This for me, is in my top 5 campsites in Scotland!! It is truly a place to get away from it all. The nearby fishing village-Lochinver- is very pretty and you can find everything there-hotels, supermarket, bank, post office, Fisherman's Mission (food) etc. And the locals are very friendly and accomodating. A big change from LONDON! As regards Shore Caravan Site itself the facilities are satisfactory-not as superb as those found in 5 * sites such as Glen Nevis in Fort William, but the remoteness and scenery more than compensates!

This is a beautifully located, relaxing campsite. Staff at reception/shop, friendly and helpful. Site itself can be busy (we were there in mid August 2007) but somehow the relaxed and informal atmosphere prevails. The beach is just beautiful - especially at sunset. A cliche sure but this campsite is really worth travelling to. No kids 'facilities' as such but three little boys ran wild, safely and within view, on low hills and shorelines and had a ball.

best ever!!!!!
Achmelvich is a wonderful place to come too as it has the best sunsets and beaches i have ever seen. My Family and I have been coming back to Achmelvich for 9 years and we all love it very much. My kids have made lots of new friends, they all meet up every year and they have a blast. The only problem this year was that some people thought you had to be in bed and lights out by 10pm!!!!!! which just doesn't happen....most people are setteling down by 12midnight, I find that a more normal time as after all, you are on HOLIDAY!!!!!. but it wont stop us coming back We will be back next year. My kids don,t want to go anywhere else EVER!!.

My family have so many happy memories of Achmelvich.I visited "The Shore" for many years, on a few occassions staying the whole summer. The welcome you recieve from the owners is second to none.If its a quiet relaxing holiday you want then Achmelvich is the place for you.We will certainly return again soon.

Spent 3 nights here in our caravan in late July 2006. Although you can't see it from the site, the beach is superb - a crescent of white 'shell' sand backed by dunes and great walking on the surrounding headlands. The site was rather crowded and I think only the midges prevented it getting noisy in the evenings. The facilities are just OK - in need of an upgrade soon.

We've just returned from our first (but not our last) visit. Stunning is the only word! We stayed longer than planned as the weather was great - could have been the med. with blue sea and white sand. Busy site with most people we spoke to having returned year after year.

Nice place, no fantastic place, shame about the hospitality....and shame there seems to be no move, either from the owners or the authorities to restrict the speed boats who operate in the bay. We have witnesed speed boats whizzing around in areas where children paddle and swim. Not what you expext in this idylic spot. Shame!!

Perfect.
Small campsite right on the shore and next to some amazing beaches... all white sands and turquoise waters. Toilets and showers (hot and free) are clean and there's and indoor area for washing dishes etc. Small onsite shop has very basic supplies but incredibly helpful staff. Can pitch where you like though some areas are on a slope. Site is reached via winding single track road, sign at start states not suitabe for caravans, but were quite a few caravans on site when I was there. The views area amazing, fish and chips only slightly less so. There is no shelter when wind picks up so pitch your guy ropes properly (or like me you'll wake to find roof of tent waving inches from your face) but that's the only drawback to this site, aside from the no dog rule. If you can bear to leave your beloved mutt behind (I did) then this is a must go site. Even the drive to get there is stunning.

Brilliant Campsite
Brilliant Campsite, it's a bit of bind to drag a caravan to and to be honest the facilities are a bit marginal. The site itself is great, brilliant views, while we were there the sunset one night had everyone out of the tents and caravans just watching the sun go down. Can't comment on the fish and chips which are cooked fresh on site as we didn't try them, but seemed very popular. Just go there, it's a must do site if you go up to Sutherland.(They do take caravans, as for web site try www.shorecaravansite.org.uk)
