Located on the rugged West coast of the Isle of Skye at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountain range and the shore of Loch Brittle, Glenbrittle Campsite is the perfect antidote to the pressures of modern living. An ideal base camp for some of the finest rock climbing and hill walking in Britain, the site is popular with devotees of the natural site and offers a wild camping experience with the added advantage of facilities close by. Eight hard stands with electric hook-ups are now available. The site features pitches in natural pockets spread liberally across the field and down towards the shore at Loch Brittle. Shower and toilet facilities are located nearby with convenient vehicle access tracks for unloading camping equipment. Glenbrittle also has a campsite shop offering everything from fresh and canned food to camping and climbing equipment. Voted the No.1 UK campsite by The Daily Telegraph. Open from 1 April to 30 September

Glenbrittle Campsite
fantastic campsite, excellent for walking and relaxing time, returned for the fourth time this year, weather was mixed with some very high winds, but dont let that spoil the fun, wonderful beach for walking and swimming, road towards glenbrittle needs some repair. Makes an excellent base camp for travelling all over Skye

Great site. Helpful staff and good shop. Facilities are simple but more than effective, and the scenery and beach are stunning Be aware that if you require a hookup the options for pitching a side tent are limited as the ground for this area is very hard compacted gravel (almost tarmac). We chose to use one of the non hookup grass pitches.

One of the best campsite's we have ever stayed at. Ideal location, stunning scenery and friendly service at the shop. To wake up and see the mighty Cuillin on one side and the wonderful beach on the other took our breath away. We shall be back ASAP.

Yes indeed a very nice site. Wake up, have brekkie, go straight out into the hills for a walk... Showers are the most powerful I've eve encountered in a campsite although the downside is that he toilet block floor does get a bit wet! Best of all there is still no mobile reception so put your Blackberry at the bottom of your bag you wont be needing it!!

My wife and I stayed here for the first 2 weeks July 2009 and I must say its one of the best location we have been to after 50 years of caravanning, it was the first time we had been to Skye and to wake up in the morning to the veiw of the Cuilins was unbeleivable, the two guys that run the site are very helpfull and spend a lot of time making sure that the site is tidy and that the toilets and showers are clean, Ive read reports saying that the showers were always busy well I can say that using the showers every day their was only 2 days that I had to wait to get in, we are going back this year at the beginning of June, just hope the weather is as good,by the way we didnt think the Midges were that bad but the Clegs were.

Glenbrittle just gets better every year.Just back from over two weeks stay-revived,refreshed and suntanned-not many midges this year. Alex,Kenny and Christine still doing a wonderful job making everyone feel very welcome. There is always something new for us "old timers" to find out about - Chris found some new runs and new routes on his favourite Cuillins.Good to be able to share our favourite place with new friends John and Ali whom we met at Glenbrittle this year. Roll on next year -we'll be back!!!!

Glenbrittle Campsite - a gem of a find
I have got to say that I've recommended this campsite to everyone and their dog since getting back. As long as you're not after 5* facilities (what's there is more than adequate and clean and people v.friendly) and don't mind a wee drive to the nearest village this is the best site I've been been to. The location and views alone make this one of THE campsites in Scotland.

Just returned from 8 nights on the best ever campsite. The people who look after the site were fantastic, they keep the site immaculate through all their hard work. I have noticed someones review that says nothing for the kids. Well our kids could not wish for anything else. There is the beach, sea and the rivers. Loads of exploring. Lots of space for football, kites, swing ball. We had barbecues with marshmallows. What else could a child want. Thankyou for the best holiday.

Glenbrittle Campsite - one of the five best ever seen
...I will return in May - for my yearly hiking and relaxing weeks without family. This is the best campsite in Scotland I have seen. You walk from your tent in a few hours on the next munros and / or on the seaside and 7 or take a relaxing day at the beach. - there are people swimming.... - me not, brrr - The nature is extremly fantastic, unbelievable and undiscrible. The facilities are basic but fine and clean - just the shower was extremely hot last year - but better then too cold :-). The shop is extraordinary good, Portree (nice town with coop, news, fish & chips etc is about 30 min of driving, in school holidays there is a bus.) All other Skye attractions are within 1hour driving. And - the best - there is no mobile-phone-net working in the valley ! Telephon box at campsite or - to get called from the continent - at Glenbrittle house 10 min of fine walk. I would be there much more often, but for me it is 1800 km-trip from Cologne

I've stayed at Glenbrittle pretty much every year for the last 15 and I would recommend it to anyone-in actual fact I do wax lyrical about at every given oppourtunity!!.Yes,the showers are a little basic but they do the job and the stunning location and scenery make up for that. Not much for the kids but we've always had a great time.Weather can be a bummer but if you've invested in a decent tent you should be fine as the wind dries it off pretty quickly.I've seen lots of staff come and go and thy are always happy and friendly,I would be too if I was waking up to that view every day!.Put it on your list of things to do before you die!.

Chris and I have just returned after three wonderful weeks at Glenbrittle. It never ceases to amaze me how wonderful a setting this is - even after over twenty years holidaying here. Alex and Kenny work remarkably hard to maintain the clean standards in the toilet blocks, collecting rubbish, and cutting the grass. They are so welcoming, and knowledgeable about the walks and the island. It is the most relaxing place ever to go on a holiday, excellent running and walking for Chris, and extremely scenic place for knitting and walking on the beach. Thanks for a wonderful holiday invigorated now until next year.

one of only 2 options for exploring the north cuillins. the other being the youth hostel. good ground for camping, we had very heavy rain and it didnt flood much. great shop, big variety of stock at decent prices. Facilities are adequate if the campsite is not too busy but if full then they can be overcrowed and a long wait is required. only 2 showers in the ladies.

Just returned from this campsite which is situated at the foot of the Black Cuillins and which is an excellent site for serious walkers. There is a pleasant beach to walk along for those who aren't "into" walking/climbing the Cuillins. The grassy pitches are spacious if a bit exposed in the strong winds we encountered when trying to pitch our tent, which was probably a bit bigger than the average tent there. The facilities are excellent with lots of hot water for showers and washing clothes/dishes. I could have done with a bit more space for drying off in the shower cubicle with a bench or seat to put my stuff or sit on, but leaning on the wall instead was O.K. as the shower itself was one of the best I've encountered for a long time. I can recommend this site particularly to energetic, keen walkers - or if you are like me, to just sit and relax and read a book whilst enjoying the beautiful hills around three sides.

The friendliest site in Scotland. The staff gave the impression that they had been waiting just for you to turn up all day! There is nothing wrong with the showers etc, other than they are a bit overused and crowded at busy times. The place when we went was crammed with serious climbers and weekend trippers to the beach, abd the atmosphere was great. Highly recommended.

Fantastic campsite in amazing location. We spent a couple of days here pottering about on the beach, walking with the dog and generally relaxing. I had been warned that the facilities were very basic, but I think they might have been upgraded. Showers are surprisingly good (much better than they look!) and toilets/kitchen sink etc clean with hot water.

I have camped here for a long weekend with my brother every year for the last 20 years. The setting never fails to take my breath away! On a calm summer's evening, with the light fading , a glass of malt, the midge repellant on and one of the best views in Scotland - it is nothing short of heaven.

Unbelievable location. Staff, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Excellent little shop, appropriately stocked for the location. You'll need good equipment to camp here, whether here just for the view, hiking, mountaineering or sea kayaling this is adventurous country with weather to suit. Don't forget your midgy repellant and those silly midge head nets won't look silly any more.

Good site in a stunning location. Excellent well stocked shop on site, reasonable prices. Was busy when we were there last week. Pitches were good & level. people were very friendly. There was a water shortage & people were asked to conserve as much as possible. Facitlites need upgrading but clean enough. The stunning location more than made up for gripe re toilet block though. Make sure you have plenty of midge repellent.

Beautiful beach location. Ideal for hill walking as Glenbrittle is one of 3 Start points for walking the Cuillins. Toilets and showers basic but clean. Well maintained site with a very well stocked shop. Theres nothing near the site except the beach and the Cuillins so not much to keep kids occupied.
