Campsite set amidst the dunes. Next to wonderful beach. Referred to as small and primitive in the "Rough Guide"? See our view. Owned by the local common grasings and run by Kenneth McLennan in Cnip. Only 5 touring caravans so book ahead. As you can no longer camp at Cliff, this is the nearest option. There are BBQ areas set amongst the dunes west of the campsite along with a small football field. Picture is of the beach in front of the campsite taken by Andy Thomson.
Total pitches: 50
Pub 10 miles
Open from Apr to Oct
Our view: We really enjoyed this site when we visited in June 2005 and were amazed how quiet the site was. Modern well kept facilities including 50p showers. The washing up area is inside the block and has hot water. There is a great beach ideal for families, pets

Spent 2 nights camping on this beautiful site right next to the beach. £7 per night for 12 man tent. Facilities limited - 2 showers in ladies only one of which was working but water always hot. Static caravans not a problem and the locals were very friendly - offering us help when my son wasn't feeling well.

We travelled over for a two night stay in our tent, and what a gem this place is. The site is nestled in the dunes of a beautiful beautiful bay. The showers etc are very clean and water always hot. The perfect get away from it all. Nearest shop @ 15 miles away so make sure you have everything you need! Basic - but awesome. Excellent VFM as pitch was a fiver a night!

A lovely situated site. Toilets and showers are fine. There are a few empty caravans around with the best pitches but we weren't put off by them. At £6 a night this is excellent VFM. There is an excellent shop nearby in Uig which will eventually provide laundry facilities but these weren't up and running yet when we visited (August 2008). The beach is just wonderful and very safe.

Was here with our twin granddaughters who thought the site was great because it was so close to the beach. We were lucky because the weather was really good. We were also lucky to have met a few of the locals, especialy Norman who lives on the site, who was very helpful with local knowledge on best areas to fish, sights to see etc. We enjoyed our holiday very much and will be back again.

We have just returned from a fantastic stay on this Jewel of a camp site. The weather we had been told was wonderful for the six weeks prior to our visit. Oh well the blustery showers still did not detract from the beauty of this lovely place. I had read a review that was a little negative about the static caavans on the site. I had the idea that they would be huge and all stuck in a line. Not a bit of it. The caravans that where there were tidy touring vans that are left there for the summer. I spoke to a Lady from Stornaway that had a van there for weekends. Absolutely idea. The people running the site were friendly and helpful . The beach is probably one of the best I have ever camped near. The white sand and clear blue sea could trick you into thinking you are in the carribean. On a practical note the facilities on site although a little worn were spotlessly clean. The hot water was HOT. The peace and quite was healing. My other half and I have been back in Oxfordshire for a couple of weeks now and we still grin when we talk about our stay in Cnip. I know the Mutts (Jaffa and Maggie) enjoyed romping on the beach. It was worth the long journey. Ps. Stornaway closes on a Sunday so make sure you have your provisions sorted.

We stayed here for 3 nighst during mid August. We really enjoyed the experince as the campsite enjoys a fantastic position by the sea. The ammenities are geat, providing showers toilets and constant hot water, and are very clean.

This has to be the best official campsite in the Outer Hebrides. A wonderful location on a picture postcard white sandy beach with hardly anyone on it. Great for kids and dogs with some interesting rock pools around the head of the bay. Surrounded by beautiful machair and very peaceful as the access road is little used. Lots of the best spots are taken with empty caravans there for the season, but you can still find a good one if you look. All facilities are there and clean, though no washing machine as listed. A great place to sit and vegetate!

Beautiful, cheap amazing site with a fantastic beach that really is like nothing you would see other than in Scotland. Facilities are fine with two showers (50p needed) and I noticed an electric socket on the wall in the facilities block that people were using to charge mobiles, lamps and cameras (incidentally, we had a mobile signal with both Virgin and Orange). There is a shop in Uig nearby that is extremely well stocked and also sells fuel, as well as being a post office. The empty vans are quite strange at first but don't let it put you off. Visited August 2007.

This site has a lot to be said for it. It is a friendly site most of the time and most campers get on with each other. We can highly recommend it and hope it will continue to be on offer for campers. The beach at times on a nice suuny day can look very Carribean.

I stayed here with my wife and two young children in early June 2006. It's safe to say that it's the most beautiful location I have ever camped in. After driving by some of the awful sites in other parts of Lewis we were amazed to find this site, literally in the middle of nowhere. I cannot recommend this campsite enough, although you will need a good tent to cope with the Lewis weather! Facilities are more than adequate and were kept pretty clean. There are plenty of pitches although it's a bit annoying seeing all the empty caravans. By the way it cost ?5 a night for our 4 person tent.

Just come back from 6 nights in our family tent at this campsite. Fabulous setting in a beautiful and remote part of Lewis. Facilities good but basic, not sure how they would cope with a full campsite in the summer. Be aware that this campsite has 25 fixed caravan spaces. People put their caravan there from May till October and stay during weekends and holidays. Take care not to put your tent/caravan in one of the fixed spots, as you may have to relocate. This being early May, we saw most of the caravans in place but not many occupants, only sheep and their lambs were wandering around on the campsite every day. Campsite is right next to a stunning beach, frequented by local dogwalkers and kite surfers, but big enough to still feel empty. We were lucky with the weather and the views over the surrounding wilderness were fantastic. If you're looking for a remote "get away from it all" place and you don't mind the sight of 25 unoccupied caravans, this is the place for you. Highly recommended.
