Ardgarten Forest Holidays Caravan and Camping Site
great location nice view and not to far to drive from glasgow for a weekend break, far too expensive pitches very uneven rocky and wet the whole site is a bit shabby it looks like waste ground in parts there is very little facilities for kids most of the staff are gems not them all, the rules and rules and even more rules are crazy and make it a bit of a boot camp than a holiday camp . i think the company should put more time money and effort into mantaining and improving this site and bring it up to scratch afterall the charge us plenty this is most expensive site i have ever been on and i have no idea why

Again a great stay at Artgarten. Toilets /site immaculate. Staff very friendly and nothing was a problem to them . The campsite was very busy due to the holiday weekend But plenty of room between each tent. The staff were always walking around which was nice to see and they always have time for you Again full marks to a great campsite and team.

This site looked as though it would be great with good facillities on a lovely setting on the lochside. However, we arrived to a very aggressive site manager who told us that tents were not allowed to arrive after 8pm. We clearly had no where else to go.

Beautiful location shame it is spoiled by price and too many rules. Very expensive. I have camped in a tent all over Scotland and this is the most expensive site I have ever stayed at. Watch out for additional costs on top of the already high pitch fee per night e.g. non member charge £3.50, administration fee £2, additional car charge £5, additional person charge £5.50 weekend charge etc, etc. I along with many others go camping as a cheap alternative to staying in a hotel/hostel but this site seems to have missed that fundamental fact! As for the rules they seemed obsessed with customers parking on the grass which you may think is fair enough. Only the grass is not some manicured lawn it is very rough in places. Heard a couple of people shouted at to move their car as they where unpacking after arriving. The area I parked my car turned into a swamp after a night of rain and I had to wade to my car climbing in the passenger side to move my car the next morning. They have a gate which campers have to go through which is locked from 10pm till 8am which seems pointless. Reason seems to be to reduce car noise at night. This does not happen at other sites. Given the fact you can't park your car on the grass makes this rule even more pointless. Campers are generally very considerate of others and do think about how much noise they are making at night. Was thrown out of the toilets at 10.55 even though they are not meant to close for cleaning until 11am. Just wanted to use the toilet quickly. They have someone on standby over night for emergencies only. Couldn't help thinking if there was a real emergency surely I would be calling the police! Perhaps this accounts for some of the high site cost! Pointless. I think they have lost site of the fact that customers are wanting value for money and a relaxing time. The site is good if it was half the price and the staff relaxed more about the rules. Toilets clean, washing up facilities, laundry and shop. Location has to be best of all. Had no kids so can't comment on their facilities. I do know however I won't be back and many of the other campers I spoke too share my view.

Just back from 2 nights in ardgarten and had a lovely time. The site facilities are clean and easily accessable from most pitches. As a female i must say the shower facility was excellent and they had a couple of seperate changing rooms which i felt was good, as sometimes getting changed within the shower block can be problematic. Pitched near the water, though on a slope the views were beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay anf the shop was very well stocked. Felt little things like ordering fresh croissants for the morning was a nice touch. And would definately return to this site. I have noticed that many people complain about midgies though we felt that some good citronella candles and insect repellant did the trick. ALso advise to keep down the insect door on the tent zipped up.

Just returned from a camping holiday here for 5 nights. Excellent location, but site would certainly benefit from a good tidy up and better pitches for tents. Toilets and showers well above average and free ( as they should be. ) We found the charges to be expensive even for high season, and were surprised to find they had gone up for the last two days of our stay. We were told this was because we were now in a holiday period. Beware the exit onto the main road which is on a bend with traffic in a 60 mph zone. Also bins overflowing on some days. Washing up facilities excellent

Beautiful site at the end of loch long with picture postcard views of the loch and the mountain ranges spent two nights there with my family and while i had a good time i must mention the Midges they are the only thing to spoil this perfect little corner of the country. no relief from them not even in the toilet block where i think they were nesting just waiting for there next victim. this is a great site with good walking and stunning view but please prepare for the little uninvited guests.

Stayed 3 nights Bank holiday May weekend. Is perfect location, right on the water. Doesnt matter where you pitch, its very near. Loads of crabs, starfish, ragworms and a beach full of muscles for kids to explore. Has playpark for kids. If you get a pitch near then it is perfect to let the kids play whilst being able to keep an eye on them/pitch your tent or get your awning up. Facilities fine however campsite wsa very busy Friday and Saturday night and the toilets and wash area can get busy too at breakfast lunch and dinner time. The toilets got a little messy saturday night. Met loads of lovely people including a couple of the seasonal pitch holders who were amazing and so helpful for tips. The ground is stony for caravans so make sure you have the right pegs. Staff very helpful and friendly but there did seem to be a lot of "rules to abide by" however they did not intrude on our holiday at all. Remember your midge spray!! They are bad in the evening. Lovely walk through woods to the visitor centre. Loads of people go for a fish and bring their boats too. Kids 11, 6 and 4 had a great time, met loads of friends and we enjoyed it too. Has a small shop selling basic foods and buckets, spades, tea coffee, small kids toys. No newspapers or cigarettes for those smokers so you would have to visit Arrochar a couple of miles down the road.

October 2009. After reading reviews of the site my wife and I decided to have a trip there and stay for as long as a week. Loch Long is a place we have visited in the past, 35 years in the past and held good memories for us. The scenery has hardly changed and is as beautiful as ever. The views from the campsite are amazing to say the least. Although we were self sufficient, the shop does fresh bread and milk on a daily basis and contains a few provisions but not many. I can't praise the toilet facilities too highly, they were spotleesly clean, smelt pleasant and were quite warm which is nice if you are thinking of having a strip wash. The staff are all very friendly, as were the other campers. We only left early to make our way home because I could not get either TV or radio signals on my equipment, I hasten to add that is not the fault of the people on site but a shortcoming of my own equipment. If I had had a TV aerial capable of being vertically polarised instead of horizontally I would probably have still been there. All in all a very good site well worth a visit. P.S. The cabins are all finished and look great.

Arrived on Sat early eve 15 Aug. The rain and wind was chucking it down . we got the tent up (vango Tigris400) the tent stood up to all the weather could throw at it .The site is having cabins built , but no problems for the campers . the site will be wonderful once the cabins are finished . The Childrens play area is up and running . Toilets and showers very clean and well kept . The shop holds a bit of eveything (no beer or wine ) the fresh rolls MMMM they make a nice coffee too . The staff are all great , they go out their way to help Hired a fishing rod for a few pounds . A great service , Landed 18 fish in 4 hours . Kept 3 and returnend the rest back ,much to the delight of the seals that were close to the shore waiting ... I wonder how many made it back to freedom Marks out of 100 for Ardgarten.Well an easy 100 We will be back ...

We have had a lovely few days here. Bit disapponted on arrival as the site is a little scruffy and some of the site is still under construction and looks like a building site with portacabins etc. they have been installing and still finishing their log cabins. The main photograph of the site is misleading. However, having said that, the location is great and the pebble beach at Loch Long is 100 yards away where you can fish, collect mussels and cockles or just relax. The facilities were excellent, toilets very clean and hot showers. Staff very helpful and site had a nice community feel, probably due to amount of seasonal lets.

we were there in may 2009. we had been there many years ago. we were dissappointed this time because we couldn,t pitch near the loch because they are building lodges. The toilets, showers etc. are all new so very nice. The road around site needs doing up, it got very muddy when it rained. lovely location though. The staff were very helpful.

A beautiful site in a stunning location but a bit on the expensive side. I used the site as a base for hillwaliking but wouldn't do so again. It cost me £27 for two nights in a small tent on my own.

really enjoyed stay, but shower facilities were a let down, no electrical points provided for things such as hairdryer and straighteners. Everthing else we found it to be satisfactory. we went on a one hour cruise on loch lomond which was great fun and only a short drive away.

Site visited in May 2006, Beautiful Views all around the campsite. Right on Loch Long. Nice flat pitches. Plenty of Off Grass parking, which was near the Grass pitches. Small Play park for kids. Toilets and Showers although a dated, were very clean. Shop well stocked and staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of cycling routes near by, and also nice walks. Quite a bit of a walk to Arrochar along a 60 mile an hour road, may not be suitable for young children walking. Gate closed at 10pm, but if you were out of site, you could easily park at shop and walk to your tent. Paths and roads were quite well lite at night. Excellent site.
