Fidden Farm Campsite
I have just returned from a short break to this remote site on the island of Mull and it was all that I wanted it to be. The young lady on reception explained the rules - there are none! Pitch wherever you wish once through the gate is all that you need to know. There is no no electric hook up, which was fine with me because I was in a small tent. Due to the wind I chose a location near to the gate and in close proxiomity to the adequate toilet block. The site is literally on the beach and the views towards Iona are stunning. Food is available at the nearby Keel Row pub and along with beer or two it is an ideal way to spend an evening. Thanks for keeping this site as nature intended and I will be back.

stayed here last year and very glad we did. brilliant spot next to the beach. great sunsets/sunrises especially if your hobby is photography! when we arrived it was very windy but managed to get tent up with help from neighbours who supplied us with strong guyrope! we were lucky with the weather and spent a wonderful day on Iona and another at Staffa. the only thing we wished we had was a boat as many campers would go off for a paddle and come back with tales of seeing seals and dolphins. would definitely stay here again and it was well worth the drive down from the ferry on the single track road! plus there is an excellent mussel farm on the way down where we picked up a bag of mussels for a fraction of the cost the supermarkets would charge. this provided 2 people with a meal for 2 nights. all in all it was a brilliant holiday and very relaxing!

If its facilities you want then don't make the trip. If you want to get away from it all then do. Even the drive to Fidden Farm is enough to get you into chilled mode. And once you are there its impossible to do anything else. We have just returned yesterday and I am already trying to find an excuse to go back. The spot is breath taking.

Just spent a couple of nights here. The location is second to none, white sand, pink granite, and superb weather. Overlooked Iona and the Atlantic Ocean. The new shower block is great, free hot showers and luxurious washing and toilet facilities. There is a CDP but it is not at the shower block, as their new sewerage system will not accept chemical waste, but it is only a short distance away. This is a working farm and so there are some fine specimens of sheep on the campsite, and cows on the approach. The beach is to die for but there are no artificial amusements for the children, this is natural and great. Loved it.

If you want a Butlins site - Book into one. If you want Heaven then this is the place to be. I've given it 5 stars for everything because to all ages there is everything. I first started to use Fidden Farm in 1957 when, as a 5 year old it was the adventure playground only an island setting can offer. Bonnie Prince Charlie would certainly have got his ass kicked by me then. Over the years travelling back and forth to Iona I have stayed here and it has never changed (well, not much). A new toilet block (a definate improvement) and little else. I think it is the same sheep and cows (just recycled). In winter, as in summer, there are the most stunning views to see (and feel). Touching this serene part of heaven is a must if you want to just 'chill out', relax and be at peace with yourself. The Keel Row may have changed hands over the years but the atmosphere is just as enticing as ever. Good food, excellent whisky, great atmosphere and a roaring fire add to the flavour of this small pub. Post Office cum shop carries most things you will need. A shorty hop to Iona where St. Columba landed in 563AD is a must but don't just visit the Abbey. Take a day out of your life and explore the island which has even more stunning views on the westward side. On a clear day you can see North America (only kidding). Staffa is just a short boat trip away and you will find the locals very friendly and willing to have a yarn with anyone willing to do so. When visiting Fidden Fram there is only one rule. 1) Slow down and enjoy the pace. 1) make sure you have extra strong guy ropes (you might need them 1) you have arrived back at natures door just relax and enjoy it and, 1) take your rubbish home with you. You have travelled a long way to see this beauty spot - don't spoil it by leaving your rubbish behind.

Just returned today from Fidden Farm. Had a great time. The location is perfect and although there is no electricity it doesn't matter. There is so much to do that you don't have time to think about electricity. I had my two you children with me. My oldest being 3 and my youngest 20 months. They had a ball. We hardly saw them for the four days we were there. They spent the whole time on the beach. The views are stunning. The site doesn't have much on it as its a field but it is so perfect you don't notice. This is our first time camping as a family and we will 100% be back.

Just come back from a wonderful hliday on Mull - spent five nights at fidden and fell in love with the place, the views are second to none, I gave three stars for the kids facilities because although there are no swings or games rooms, there are hours worth of fun in the rock pools and beaches. Our kids had a ball. The new shower block is excellent, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. A great get away from it all place.

Stunning location with beautiful views. Right on white sandy beaches. Otter swam in the bay when we were there. Facilities appear to have been upgraded with new shower and toilet block. Ideal for camping. Great base for visiting Iona.

My wife and I have just recently stayed at the site May 11th 2009 and found it to be excellent in every way. The facilities have now been upgraded and are as good as we have seen anywhere. There is no power but loads of space and the views are stunning and the sunsets spectacular. I think the no-power is actually a plus. Extremely well placed for visiting Iona as you can leave your vehicle parked up and walk from the site to the ferry port, it's only about 1.5 miles and a very pleaseant walk. We've given 1 star for facilities for children as there are no swings etc but we consider this another plus as the area is one fantastic natural playground for both adults and children.

I am happy to add two more happy campers to the long list of people who have found something special at this campsite. We stayed for the first time in early September. There was only two or three other people staying. The setting is absolutely wonderful, with a beautiful beach, amazing sunsets, and lots of wildlife around, including many seals basking on the rocks. It really was magical, and one of those places where you really let go. We had a small fire on the beach (wood available from shop 1 mile away), had a quick dip in the icy cold crystal clear water, and really just soaked up the scenery, the nature, and the peace. My favourite campsite in the world. Regarding the facilities, yes they have seen better days. But part of the beauty of this place is its simplicity, and if the facilities are being updated (I noticed some work going on), I hope that they will be kept simple. I think it would change this place to have too much infrastructure (eg electric hook-ups) but that’s just my opinion. It had been very windy the day before we got there, and from what other campers said of how it was, you should definitely bring a sturdy tent, and spare guide ropes in case. In conclusion though, this will hopefully be one of those places that if you decide to go, you’ll have memories that will last forever.

We are regulars to Mull but this is the first time we have stayed at Fidden. The road from Craignure is single track all the way. It took us just over an hour with the caravan and is okay as long as you concentrate on what you are doing. The site is in a beautiful location. We were there in June 08 for 8 days and it was wet and windy, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. The toilets and showers are adequate but need updating. This site would be a goldmine if it had a few electric hook ups. We will be back next year.

Toilets and shower could do with updating, however there are signs that this could be happening. Was surprised to see how busy this site was. The scenery was awesome. The water was so clear and calm enough for the kids to play in their dinghy as long as you don't mind sharing the beach with the cows and sheep. Had some fantastic sunsets here and will certainly go back. Some areas may be exposed in windy weather. In perfect weather it is a little corner of paradise. Perfect location for a trip to Iona (cheap ferry ride)

I have fantastic memories of here, and every year I yearn to go back, and I will!! The ever changing views over the beach/sea/sky cannot be beaten. The facilities are adequate, the owners and locals are hospitable. The pub is great. If you like back to nature experiences this is the place for you, if not go somewhere else and then you won't be disappointed. Tips. 1. If staying for a longish time, the B & B Seaview I think takes in washing. 2. I found an electric socket in the barn, and used a hairdryer in there, quite an interesting sight, the farmer doing what farmers do, and me drying my hair! Enjoy this very special place.

So glad to have found that this site still exists. We stumbled across it about 11/12 years ago and was captivated by it's beauty. It was September and there was only one other tent at the time so we had the place to ourselves. The wildlife was incredible - we had canoes and could see red spider(?) crabs on the sea bed. The feral ferret is a mink by they way! Very happy to hear that they are still there. Wonderful place for star gazing. We haven't been back yet but we did name our first daughter Iona!!

We heartedly agree with all the positive comments others have made about the site - it was breathtaking! We camped right beside the clean, sandy beach, with plenty of rocks to scramble over. Facilities are certainly basic, but camping costs appropriately cheap. Low-profile staff. Our tent struggled to cope with what was described as a 'wee sea beeze' - but at least that meant no mozzies! We'll definitely be back. By the way - were any other tent-dwellers visited by the feral ferret?!

This place is the stuff of dreams. I didn't want to leave. Ok its not Butlins for the kids or the toliets and showers are 5 star but so what! The do what they are supposed too. The Ladies shower didn't work so we had a family shower in the men's. No problems. please look after this site. Its so special. 2 nights were just not long enough. Watch out for the wind though our awning suffered. Bits of it are still on Mull!!!

All the reviews about the beauty of the location are accurate. The site is also ideal for a day trip where you get the boat to Staffa in the morning and then visit Iona in the afternoon. The site is a large farmers field; it is so large that you are most unlikely not to be able to find plenty of space. Children will like the safe sandy beach and the rock to run round on. There is no shop on the site; the store is 1.5 miles away in Fionnphort. The facilities are very poor, only 1 step up from wild camping. There is only one sink for washing dishes, cold water only. The toilet block is a portacabin. Each side has 1 shower, 2 toilets and 2 washbasins which share a hot water heater (the heater in the mens did not work) The shower fluctuated rapidly from scalding to freezing. Some people were worried that their children would get burnt by the water. We met up with different campers each morning because there was always a queue with several waiting. The number of showers is completely inadequate fir the size of the site. The roads on Mull are almost all single track with passing places. It will take you 1 hour to drive to the site from the ferry terminal at Craignure,

Believe what has been written in every other review- you will not be disappointed by this site. It is huge as well so you would be likely to find a good spot. Take a bike- handy for the loo if you are down at the far end. Probably the best campsite we have stayed on for location. Wonderful, special place and when the sun shines you will feel as though you have died and gone to heaven.

Beautiful location overlooking white sand beaches and turquoise sea. A wonderful place to appreciate nature's architecture at its best. (Camera essential to capture the light, changing colours of the sea and the absolutely stunning sunsets over Iona.) Lots of open space. Level / clean / sandy and well drained ground for pitching. Very safe for children. Although toilet / shower facilities are basic they are perfectly adequate. Water was always hot and we never had to wait in a queue to use facilities in the two weeks that we spent here! Good, well stocked general store is only a mile from the site as is the ferry for Iona. So glad that there are still hidden gems such as Fidden. We will definitely return! Sincere thanks to everyone who made our holiday experience so magical.

We will be returning this year for our 3rd visit to Fidden Farm and cannot wait to arrive. It is the campers best kept secret - never over crowded and the views are nothing but stunning. Children are in their element playing on the secluded beaches and rock pools. Facilities are very basic but that just adds to the fun of true camping. If you are planning on visiting do not hesitate - you will not be disappointed!

I have been visiting this site for the past 9 or 10 years. I love it and cannot help myself from returning year after year. I have not had a holiday if I have not visited Fidden. True the facilities are not 5 star but they are sufficient. Looking forward to my yearly visit in 2007.

Stayed here Whitsun 2007 - beautiful site, nice soft dry ground, very isolated but shop & pub a mile or two away, bags of room, quite cheap (£4 each per night), facilities basic but sufficient, cold north wind (but no midges!), beautiful beach and rocks, can camp on the edge of the beach (but even windier), easy to get to lovely Iona. Have decided to come back every year but will hire a camper van next time!

During a high pressure / clear / calm and warm period, staying at this site you will certainly think you have died and gone to heavan. Take a canoe and a bike and a barbeque and you will have everything you need to enjoy the spectacular beach, sea and local area. During bad, windy, wet weather, the exposed site can quickly turn into a scene of chaos and destruction (tents strewn all over and wet, unhappy campers scampering to their cars).

This year was our 5th visit to this site. It is just fantastic. The views over the Sound of Iona are exceptional. If you want to get away from it all, and are not expecting an organised site with mod cons, this is the place for you. On our last morning, whilst at breakfast, we watched an otter on the rocks devouring its breakfast. We'll be back!

first timers
First timers camping anywhere and couldn't have picked a nicer setting. Lovely white sands and crystal clear sea. Did some stove cooking and watched the sun set with a glass of wine. Very peaceful and relaxing. At one with nature and awoke with a sheep munching grass by our tent! Definately lived up to our camping expectations. Ok toilets and shower are basic but they were clean with hot water and actually better than we were expecting. All in all this campsite location was a great base for enjoying our first camping experience.

Essentially a farmers field (complete with passing sheep and cows - and of course their output!) leading straight onto a beautiful beach with shallow rock pools, perfect for kids to play in. Toilet facilities poor - no hot water and inoperative shower. Water from standpipe is NOT suitable for drinking. Dishwashing sink not even connected to water supply. Charge was high for low level of facilities - ?4/adult, ?2/child.

The best camp in Mull
After living on the Isle of Mull for several years and experiencing many beautifull spots I returned for a short break camping at Fidden Farm. The beach there is as white and picturesque as you could get in the west coast of Scotland and although the toilets etc are basic the view over the sound of Iona is to behold.Friendly owners and an unmissable experience. Support this place you wont be dissapointed.

Tranquility central
A field with the most beautiful views in scotland. The sunsets over Iona are amaizing. Very open site means when the wind gets up your tent needs to be lashed down. A wonderful shallow bay for kids to swim and paddle in under supervision. Portercabin shower needs gritted teeth to use but basic, functioning facilities suit us fine.

Fantastic location
We thoroughly enjoyed this campsite, with its beach location, views of Iona, peace, quiet and tranquillity. The only down side is the basic toilet/shower porter cabin, which is situated quite a distance from the camping area. (However it was kept clean and worked fine!) Overall we thought it was just what we needed to escape from it all!
