This link in a frame Category: West Northern Highlands Clachtoll Beach Campsite is a touring caravan and camping site in Sutherland, North West Scotland. It is located 6 miles north of the village of Lochinver. As of 2007 the site offers 12 serviced pitches (water & electric hook-ups) along with the established tent areas. It is advised to book ahead at peak times for the serviced pitches. The site offers a great location with a golden sandy bay just on the doorstep. Local walks, sea and loch fishing and nature surrounds. Open from Easter to end of September.
Total pitches: 40+ Pub within 5 miles Open from Apr to Sep Our view: Visited in Aug 2004 and really enjoyed this site. Great location and superb beach a short walk. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Great camp site. Jim, the owner was fantastic. I arrived late evening on my motorbike and he couldnt have been friendlier ! You press the button on the walkie talkie and he pops over from the house, all smiles. Had a quick chat, what a nice guy, and he tells you all about the facilties etc. The facilties by the way are great. Never been to a camp site with such clean toilets and showers. Loads of pitches and you can take your choice. The beach is amazing but didnt have enough time to enjoy it as only one night. Definately going back in the summer next year for a good break. Clachtoll Beach Campsite From the email exchanges when booking our pitch to the warm handshakes when leaving six nights later (having extended our stay by 2 nights because the area gave us so many opportunities to enjoy ourselves), Jim Galway could not have been a better 'host'. The site is in a beautiful location and Jim ensures that the washing, showering and toilet facilities are kept clean - even to the extent of calling back a couple of users who'd left sand in the showers so they'd clean up after themselves! If you want a site with a shop, a children's playground and entertainment for adults in the evening, Clachtoll Beach isn't for you; but if you want excellent hospitality on a well run basic campsite in a stunning location and to experience Scotland at its best, I couldn't recommend a better site. Clachtoll Beach Campsite The site is kept to an exceptionally high standard due to Jim's seemingly never ending hard work, the facilities were also kept very clean The local scenery and wildlife was second to none and the beaches were to die for I have marked 4 stars for facilities for kids, as the beach and surrounding countryside are the only facilities for kids - having said that - the kids on site were some of the happiest, and healthiest looking kids I have seen in a long time, so perhaps the four stars is a little unkind I'd like to thank Jim for an excellent weekend, the weather was fantastic over the two days we were there, and we will definitely be planning a return visit Type of accommodation: Tent Comment by Gary & Christina from Alness Date: 16/08/2012 Was this review helpful for you? 2 of 2 found this review to be helpful. Clachtoll Beach Campsite This is one of the best sites I've ever been too. Jim, the owner is am amazing character. He's on site all the time either seeing to new arrivals, cleaning the facilites, helping somebody put up a tent or running up and down telling everybody about teh wildlife in the bay. The has good sized pitches on well drained soil. You may need leveling ramps in some places. Good clean facilites. Best of all an amazing location, and did I mention Jim? It's off the beaten track, 5 miles to the nearest shop. We saw Orca, Basking shark, porpoise, red deer and eagles. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Have just spent a fantastic weekend at this campsite. The views and the beach were stunning. The shower/toilet facilities were spotless and cleaned to a very high standard. The dish washing area is well under cover so you are out the elements (if there is any). Although I have marked 5 stars for facilities for kids, there is actually nothing for kids apart from the beach, but this is all you need. Beautiful clean sand and lovely blue water. Jim the owner is an incredible guy, never stops but is always around if needed. This campsite has loads of space and also very dog friendly. We will definately be back. A great place. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Had a great weekend, made very welcome by Jim on arrival, weather wasn't great but that didn't stop us having a lovely time. beautiful beach and walks. No kids park but that's a good thing to be honest as plenty to do on the beach and space for games. the wardens put on an easter egg hunt for the kids which was a lovely touch. Clachtoll Beach Campsite I stayed here for 8 nights 23/8/11 - 30/8/11 and loved every second of my stay. The site is well maintained and the views are great. You are less than a minutes walk from a beautiful sandy beach and about 7 or 8 miles from civilasation Lochinver but the drive there provides some lovely views. There's loads of space for camping but was informed that May/June time you should e-mail as it can get really busy. Jim and his wife are really friendly and happy to help. They provide use of a freezer to freeze your blocks for your cool box and also let you charge batteries etc as long as you make a donation to the lifeboat charity. Toilets were always clean and there is a washing machine and tumble drier on site with a nominal fee to use. The 1 complaint my GF had was the hairdryer in the womens toilet cost you and wasnt the best and there are no sockets to plug a hairdryer in, so if you have long hair bring extra towels ;-) The weather was pretty good apart from 2 days where we got a storm but from the tan Jim and his wife were supporting they clearly had a fantastic summer. Cant wait to go back next summer. Defo a must as this of Scotland is stunning. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We stayed at Clachtoll in July 2011 after a long drive up from Cumbria. The road to the campsite seemed to be never ending but when we came over the top of the last hill before the site the view down to the campsite was stunning. The white beaches and clear blue sea were amazing. Once at Clachtoll Jim came to show us where we were to put our tent. He also offered to help us to put it up but with four people we were alright without him. Jim and Ishbel were always around if you ever needed any help and were always cheerful. The facilities were always clean, the toilets and showers were regularly checked and it made a big difference from other sites as they were always tidy. The pot washing area was clean and tidy. There is a freezer to keep your freezer blocks in which was very helpful. The laundry was clean and tidy and there was washing powder provided. The fish and chips from the fish and chip van, that visits the site, were excellent and gave us a break from cooking. Come prepared as the nearest shop is 6 miles away in Lochinver and there is no onsite shop. No onsite facilities for the kids but the beach and surrounding area can be their playground. A very friendly, relaxing site with stunning views. Clachtoll Beach Campsite If you haven't been up to Clachtoll beach then you should go. Jim and Ishbel are brilliant. The site is so well run, and yet everyone feels free and welcome. Jim is really helpful- we really appreciated his help putting up the tent. The beach is beautiful and the area is amazing. Children can really get down to using their imaginations here- i never saw a bored child in the week we were there. Incidentally I have a better tan than my friends and family who were in france!! Next time i am taking a wet suit and getting a boogie board!! Happy days!! Had a fantastic week here, we were warmly welcomed by Jim the owner, who was very helpfull with the pitch allocation and anything you wanted to kow about the area. i only gave the kids facilities 1 star as there is no play area for them,but,the beach and surrounding countryside is 5 star + for all kids, including us middle aged ones. the onsite facilities are great,toilets,showers, are excellent, but could be expanded to a couple more shower and toilet cubicles, i must say they are kept very clean and tidy. bring your kids here,you will always remember Clachtoll Beach campsite. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just got back from 8 nights here and we're already wanting to return. Facilities are excellent and spotless. Many thanks to owners Jim and Ishbel for making our stay wonderful ( I think Jim is a bit of a tent fetishist 'cos he wants to help put everyones tent up) Kids don't need a playground when they have such a fantastic beach next to the campsite. By the way, owner Jim is an amazing pipes player - try and get him to play for you. One thing , make sure your tent is up to the Scottish wind. Clachtoll Beach Campsite What can I say? We have just returned from a fantastic long weekend at this site. A beautiful location with beaches to match any you would find abroad. Great area to explore and enjoyed watching the deer and seals nearby. Kids loved it to. Can't wait to return soon. Clachtoll Beach Campsite An excellent spot swamped in natural beauty. The beach is secluded with nice surf and plenty of rock-pools to keep the kids occupied for hours. The facilities are well maintained and kept to a hight standard of cleanliness. The small touches like the outside shower to rinse the sand off after swimming and a permanent cloth to clean the sinks after use. Good hot showers! Above all, Location, location, location. Clachtoll Beach Campsite This campsite is a little Gem, beautiful setting. It is made more special by Jim and Ishbell who run the site, you recieve a warm welcome, Jim without asking came over and offered to help put up the tent due to it being a bit windy, the facilities are kept emaculate. Kids dont need parks when you have a site like this, everyone is so friendly and they made their own entertainment, building sand castles, dens, swimming, rock pools to discover and boogie boarding . We certainly will revisit next year, scotland at its best, just be prepared for all weathers and take extra strong tent pegs!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Been home for a week now after spending a week camping around N/W Scotland. Arrived early to be greeted by the owner Jim who assisted in putting up our tent. Blowining a hoolie but warm!!! Kids ran down to the beach to watch the Kayak folk rolling down the four foot breakers! Amazing...Then next day 20 degrees no wind! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just had 3 very enjoyable nights here with lovely views of the beach and mountains. A warm welcome from helpful and pleasant owners Jim and Ishbell who kept the facilities immaculate. Beautiful area to explore by foot and by car. A visit to the small village of Drumbeg via Clashnessie beach was very enjoyable. A walk to the 'broch' was interesting and look out for the 'Lazy Beds' which were created to cultivate the potatoes in days gone by. Remember to take a camera! Clachtoll Beach Campsite If only it could be kept secret a little piece of heaven. Jim and ishbel warm,helpful hosts. Site is well run very family orientated no parties keeping you awake at 3am. Children entertained themselves no need for playparks. You can do as much or as little as you like,excellent location to relax and do nothing. We have booked again, strongly advice as we have seen people turned away(a long drive). Clachtoll Beach Campsite Have been to this beautiful site two years in a row now, in a tent. Beach is amazing, facilities spotless and owners welcoming. Will be retunning this year in my caravan and staying for 2 weeks.......won't want to leave!!! Well worth the 7 hour drive with 2 children!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Our first camping holiday with kids. Owners so helpful and even provided matches which we forgot. Loads of space onsite. Campsite was "full" but still loads of space/ privacy. Facilities spotless, cleaned twice a day. Beach perfect. No formal play area but kids didn't need it. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Originally planned to stay here for 1 night on our way down to Ullapool but stayed for 2 - says all really. Friendly welcome on arrival to site, nice pitch, semi hardstanding with EHU at beach end of site. All facilities clean and well thought out. Beautiful sunsets on both evenings. Interesting local information near to beach/carpark telling you about the local history of the area. Well worth a visit. Clachtoll Beach Campsite I had been rough camping with my dad, brother and sister (up North) It was a relief to arrive at Clachtoll where there was Toilet, Drinking water and showers. The journey their was fantastic. The road to get to the campsite is beautiful, there was some fantastic views, although the road is single track. We arrived on an normal grey day. The whether heated up over night and it was up to 23 degrees (GORGEOUS!!) We all headed for the beach, which is white sands, light Blue sea and rock pools everywhere. It looked like somewhere in the Mediterranean. The cleaning facilities are spotless, there is a washing machine and tumble dryer too, clean water and cold shower (bbrrrrr, i didn't enjoy that bit :P) I would recommend this to families. You can just let the kids burn of electricity on the beach whilst you get a nice tan. REALLY GOOD!!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Found this campsite via the web and although we have visited most areas of Scotland this was a new location for us, excellent site, very friendly and helpfull oweners and we had a great break. Weather was windy and wet at times as we had expected from the forecast but walking along the beach with the waves crashing in was just what we were looking for. Will be back for a longer visit. The facilities are very good with an excellent toilet block and plenty of room on the pitches. Good location for exploring the far North West of Scotland. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just had ourvisit to this great area. The road from Lochinver is fantastic, don`t know how some of the campers and vans make it!! After an 11 hour journey we were very gratefull for the welcome and help from Jim.(great bloke). Plenty to discover in the area, really enjoyed the great walking. Our lovely new tent however didn`t survive the week... despite Jim and others trying their best. Winds of up to 80mph wrote it off! However Jim and Ishbel kindly lent us another to finish our week in. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpfull. must try the pies in `The Larder` Long way but worth every mile. Clachtoll Beach Campsite After being here for 8 nights last year we decided to 12 nights this year (2009) as we enjoyed it so much last year. As always Jim was there to welcome you and offer assistance with the tent. This is still a gem of a place and has a relaxed feel - a lot of faces were there from last year, which is a statement of just how good this place is. The location is outstanding with a white sandy shallow beach in it's own bay - perforct for kids. If you are coming bring a wetsuit and a bodyboard!!!!! This was the first time I had electric hookup and an actual camping fridge (rather then the 12v coolbox) and this made all the difference for keeping this cold. The 12 mile round trip to Spar always cost us £20+ even if you only went for milk, you always bought more. So Fridge is better! I had the mountain bike with me also and even just riding along the roads towards Lochinver is so peacefully, including the rouad to Achiltibue(?). Clachtoll Beach Campsite A gem of a site hidden on the west coast of the Highlands made even better by the friendly welcome of both Jim and his wife. Their enthusiasm for people to enjoy themselves made a relaxing holiday for all. The beach is stunning offering a restful place to sit and contemplate at any time of the day. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Spent two weeks at this campsite just based on reviews and a look on the map.It was fantastic and the website is all that and more! Jim and his wife are very helpful which causes everyone on the site to be the same.There is a real friendly and pleasent atmosphere. The views are amazing and if you want space by yourself alone on the beach you can. It is a refreshing change from the caravan club sites with there list of rules.There are rules but very informally noted. My only problem is no where else we do!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Spent three nights here from 18th July. The location is beautiful, quiet with lovely white sandy beaches. The campsite has a friendly feel to it, with Jim and Ishbel always doing the rounds and on hand to help and give advice. Facilities were very clean and well organised. Unfortunately our weather was poor, but not much that you can do about that.....sun came out the day we were leaving! Will come back and find it next time! Clachtoll Beach Campsite We spent two nights here and were greeted as soon as we arrived by Jim & Ishbel. Any questions were answered and help was offered to put up our tent. Plenty to do and keep our 5 year old busy with the rock pools and playing in the water. Highly recomended site. Facilities were clean and tidy and the outdoor shower was usefull for giving the dogs a wash down after being on the beach. Clachtoll Beach Campsite A lovely campsite next to a beautiful sandy bay with blue water. The site warden Jim was very helpful assisting us to put up our tent after a long day of travel. He is always about and checking that everything is ok. Facilities at the site are fine . Useful outside shower for those wearing wetsuits.Perhaps not a huge amount for kids but the location and a little Rangers Hut which they can explore seems to keep them happy. On site washing facilities and drinks machine, unfortunately nowhere to buy basics if you run out . Six miles to Lochinver which offers one of the best Tourist Information I have ever visited with resident rangers often available to talk to you. Another liitle gem is the Leisure/Community Centre which houses a gym, lounge/tea bar,computer room and charity shop under the same roof. Try the all day breakfast fo £5 at the B+B on the front or pick up a special home made pie at the Larder Restaurant not to mention the local pottery. All in all a lovely location. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Thankyou Jim Isabell Cath and Charlie the best campsite wardens you could ever wish to meet always on hand to help from putting up tents to charging kids nintendos.Spent a week here toilet and shower block warm and always clean at any time of day.Tent pitches well spaced as much room as you would ever need and thats with a family tent on a full campsite.This is a get away from it all holiday limited mobile phone signal but a payphone on site if you really want to be found and when you see the white sandy beach and crystal clear water you'll understand why.kids facilities so theres no playground so what it was great to see kids mixing with each other playing rounders,tenis,sandcastle compititions enjoying the beach and rockpools thats the best facility any campsite can offer. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We stayed for two nights but could easily have stayed longer. What a stunning location with a superb beach within easy walking distance. The owners were very friendly and always on hand ready to help. The facilities were spotless and the free showers had plenty of hot water. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We went to Clachtoll Beach Campsite & were welcomed by Cath & Charlie - they were a lovely couple & couldn't have been nicer & more welcoming. The journey up was a long drive & to be honest we were actually wondering if it was going to be worth it. For the last part of the journey to the campsite we were on a single track road. Once we got to the campsite & were greeted by Cath & Charlie we knew we'd made the right choice in coming here. We stayed for a week - the weather wasn't very good when we first arrived & the owner Jim was helping another couple that had just arrived put their tent up in the wind. The weather got better at the end of the week & we got sunbathing down at the beach - this beach is a must see with the clear blue water & white sands. We will def be back next year. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Our family visited Clachtoll a few times in the 1970s just before & during my teens. It was great, just basic showers & toilets & nothing else for miles, I hope it hasn't changed too much. We used to get fresh milk from the friendly and hospitable farmer/owner, it was wonderful, warm & very creamy. We accquired a Border Collie pup from the farmer & called it Glen. It was an ideal place to just leave the world behind. There are not many places that have escaped the wrath of modernism, I hope Clachtoll is still one of them as I am planning to go back in the hopefully near future. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We have had a 5 day April break, this is the fifth year we have only ever been here before in July and August. The weather was great the area, beach and campsite are alongside the best in the country. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We spent 6 nights at Clachtoll from 7th April 2009 and had an ab fab time. Jim & Ishbell ( and Emily) helped immensely and were the perfect hosts. We had one VERY windy day and Jim was great, going round helipng people with their tents. There was a great atmosphere around the campsite and of course the location was absolutely stunning! Shame that there isn't a wee shop or even vending machine selling essentials as it's a 12 mile round trip to the nearest shop - go well stocked. 5 start camping - highly recommedn, but book early as it books up very quickly. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Stayed here for 8 days in July. Jim & Ishbel welcomed us within 5 minutes and were helpful right from the start, from where was the best pitch to asking if we needed help in puttin gup the tent. The side is over a large grassed area with a sandy base - makes for a well draining soil. It is long journey through beautiful scenery to get here but it it well worth it. The beach at the site it on par to anything else, including abroad. We had 4 really good hot days and you could have been in the Caribbean. We watched Basking Sharks in the bay and from the Split Rock vantage point, again more Basking Sharks in the next bay as well as Minke Whale going up the coast. It is a little windy up on the site come evening. Lots of wildlife for the kids to see, the bay is safe for swimming and there is no main roads anywhere close by. This is such a gem of a place - so much so that we are going to book for longer next year and can't wait. Every site and beach will now be compared to here!!!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The spot is beautiful and receives surprisingly low rainfall.The beach is small and clean with lovely white sand, and there were people in the sea on boogey boards. I gather it never has huge waves, as it is too sheltered, so ideal for families. The welcome is warm and friendly, and Jim ( an Ali McCoist type character!) will bring a smile to your face with his Glasgow patter. The facitilies are good, and regularly monitored by the owners. I would find it difficult to imagine anyone not enjoying their stay. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We arrived in the early evening and after being given our directions for loos/showers/drinking water etc etc, we headed off to pitch our tent. Being complete beginners (at the ages of 42 & 47 respectively!!), we were methodically working our way through the instructions when our knight in shining armour came to our rescue (Jim, of course!) and rattled up the tent with alarming accuracy and speed. Then on to our evening meal which was all very exciting! Abandoned ship this morning because of the horrendous weather, but we will definitely be back for a visit. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just returned from a week at Clachtoll - a long drive but well worth it! We had great weather and Jim is a very friendly and helpful host with good suggestions for what to do and see in the area. Facilities very clean, although could do with another shower as the campsite is so popular - full during our stay. The location is fabulous, with a glorious beach 2 minutes walk away and other coves within easy walking distance. The kids had a brilliant time in the sea and adults snorkelled in the clear water. The pie shop in Lochinver was a big hit and the village store at Drumbeg has fantastic bread and cheeses. Great walking on your doorstep and amazing 360 degree views from your tent. We will be back! Clachtoll Beach Campsite We had a super 11 night stay at this site in Aug 08. Still have only seen a very small amount of the surrounding area as there is loads to do if you like the outdoors. Site owners are the friendliest people imaginable and keen to help and give advice about what to visit locally. beautiful clean beach is less than 2 mins walk from the site, and so although there are not specifically play areas for kids-- I rated this 5 out of 5 as all kids love the beach. nearest shop is 15 min drive so worth having plenty of food (or a fishing rod) already looking forward to going back!! The scenery was amazing and the welcome we got could not have been better. 10mins after we arrived they put up signs saying they were full and you can understand why. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just spent an excellent 10 days at this site, this is thr 3rd summer in a row we have returned to Clachtoll. As everyone states Ji m and Isabela is a god send and will assist with anything. The site was very busy this year but that can only be expected of such a good site. There is however no noise as Jim will not let other people disrupt the site. What I would say is please have a look around the area as there some excellent locations just around the corner. If you pop past Stoer village hall between Monday to Friday 2pm to 4 pm the local's operate a tea room throughout July/August home baking and tea/coffee for 50p..lovely Overall this is an excellent site and area to visit and relax. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Clachtoll, Clashnessie, Achmelvich.... The area is home to some of the best beaches and scenery in Scotland. There are other campsites in the area, but this one beats them all hands down. Jim and Ishbell have created a beautiful family friendly site. Needless to say, the toilets, showers and laundry facilities are clean and well maintained. What makes this site different is the friendly welcome and helpful service that awaits every single visitor. The staff work dawn til dusk to ensure a great stay. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Location second to none, check out the sites pictures, they only tell part of the story of this area, if you get the weather you've got it made. Campsite owner Jim very friendly and helpful, helped us put up our tent (not because we were standing wondering how to put it up, he actually enjoys helping and making sure you're settled in). Toilet and shower facilities were most importantly clean and they had a fresh look about them, Jim and Ishbel were always on hand to ensure this continues. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Have had two wonderful visits to clachtoll in the past couple of months. Cannot praise Jim and Ishbel enough for their kindness and friendliness, nothing is too much trouble for either of them. The site is wonderful for children although they do have to entertain themselves, which is no bad thing, it is lovely to see had hear the families enjoying the campsite. Jim and Ishbel are to be commended for the care they give to each and every visitor, just do not believe Jim when he tells you about short strolls in the area, the one he sent us on took over four and half hours. We will be back though as it it undoubtedly the best run and friendliest site we have visited in the last ten years. Clachtoll Beach Campsite This site is a great site if you have a family or are looking for a busy site. Don`t get me wrong, it`s an excellent site but it`s very much a family centred site. Lots of large multiroomed family tents and lots of kids running around having a great time. Maybe it was when I was there, which was on the 1st Monday of the holidays, but it was just too busy for my liking. Anyway, it was a well run site and the owners couldn`t have been nicer, just don`t expect a quiet site. The drive there was great as well, fantastic views. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Absolutely gorgeous scenery, amazing beaches, great wildlife. Clachtoll campsite is the friendliest and cleanest campsite i have ever been too. Jim and Ishbell are great. Very helpful and welcoming. Big thanks to Jim and his friend who helped me out greatly when i stupidly locked my car keys in the boot! All this in very windy wet weather. The weather wasn't on our side for most of the week but we didn't let this ruin our week in one of most gorgeous parts of scotland i have ever been too. Returned to work yesterday and all i want to do is go back to the peace and quiet in Sutherland. Be prepared however when driving that the petrol prices are quite a bit higher. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Never had we been made to feel so welcome on arrival at a campsite as we were here. Owners Jim and Ishbel have a little piece of heaven in their grasp and it felt wonderful to be able to share it for a couple of days. The site is on the edge of possibly the most stunning beaches I have ever seen with pure white sand and green blue sea. The facilites on site include toilets which are spotless as are the laundry and dishwashing areas. There is a machine in the facilities block where you can purchase little cups of tea,coffee or soup which I thought was a really nice touch. The nearest shops are 6 miles down a single track road in Lochinver so if you have a large van or don't enjoy the challenge of narrow roads best to get your supplies before arriving on site. Could go on raving about this site forever but the best thing to do is visit and see it for yourself as it is Simply the Best site we have ever stayed at and we will return as soon as possible. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Five stars aren't enough for most of the categories! The 3 stars for kids' facilities is not intended as a criticism as we actively chose a site without a playground to encourage our 3 children to appreciate the natural attributes of the place. Families with children (and dogs) are certainly made very welcome. Jim and Ishbell have created a unique atmosphere that goes far beyond the spotlessly clean facilities. We were there for 5 days in August, with gale-force winds and torrential rain for 4 of them. But the one day of glorious sunshine made it worthwhile. Clachtoll and the surrounding area is wonderful, how often have we wished ourselves back there! We'll definitely return though it's a long haul from Bavaria and might take a while. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We stayed at Clachtoll in late Aug this year. We'd never travelled this far North and although the drive (11 hours!) was long the scenery along the way was stunning. This site is everything and more, simple yet stunning and location is breathtaking. Get your timing right with the weather and you'd argue no need to leave these shores again! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Clachtolls natural surroundings are probably the most astonishing I've ever seen. The campsite is perfect, with Jim and Ishbel being extremely kind and helpful at any time, they are really passionate about the campsite and their guests. The beach right at the campsite is breathtaking, you feel like at the Caribbean, just some degrees colder... Would definitely go back! The staff were the most helpfull I have come across in 40 years of camping. always helping with piching tents and taking time to talk to everyone. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We have just returned from a stay at Jim & Ishbell's wonderful site. Even the poor weather couldn't dampen our spirits (and the sandy soil meant that it didn't dampen the ground either). The location is superb with a wonderful beach on the doorstep and a miriad of other local attractions a short drive (or walk) away. The facilites were kept imaculate throughout our stay and the site was managed to allow both a degree of privacy and an abiltiy to meet new friends. Thie site may not suit those looking for constucted children's play areas and swimming pools; but, for the rest of us, it was great - oh and a noticable lack of midges to boot! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Everything about this place was perfect. The road between Lochinver and the site is single track, and I expected it to be a bit tricky with the caravan. In fact it was no problem at all. When we arrived on site we were instantly met by site supremo Jim and his able assistant Charlie who helped us get our caravan set up and simply couldn't have been more helpful. It seemed that every time we crossed the campsite Jim was helping somebody get set up or sorted out. An absolute star. The place itself is unutterably beautiful. The facitities are excellent - we don't have kids, but there were a lot of young families there and they always seemed to be busy with something, hence my five star rating for kids' facilities. To be honest, with that amazing beach less than a hindred yards away, what more could they (or indeed anyone) want? I have never enjoyed a campsite so much, and we will certainly be back! Clachtoll Beach Campsite If there was only one reason to go to this campsite, it would be to have the pleasure of meeting Jim and Ishbell. Without doubt the most friendly, helpful and resourceful management I have encountered in 30 years of camping. However there are many other reasons, beautiful beaches, mountains, solitude and a very friendly atmosphere on the site. My daughter and nephew had a fantastic time swimming at the beach, (Many thanks to Jim for lending them a couple of wetsuits). Fantastic place for photos, brilliant sunsets, occasional storms making even better shots. This is the site to go to. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just spent 3 days of our honeymoon at this wonderful campsite we found on the web. The pictures do not do it any justise. Upon our arrival we were walmly welcomed by Jim and Ishbell. A fantastic couple who constantly walked around making sure you were ok and in need of anything. where else do you see that. The site is spotless and so relaxing its untrue. The beaches are also spotless and listening to the waves and the childrens laughter with the sun on your back, makes life worth living. We will be recomending this site to just a handfull of our closest family and friends as we dont want to be turned down if we ever want to go again through lack of room to pitch our tent. (HA ha) Thank you once again for making our HONEYMOON a time in our lives that will never ever be forgotten. And you will be seeing us again. That we can promise you. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We are just back after being at clachtoll for a week and I have got to say this place is a little bit of heaven,Jim and Ishbel make you feel very welcome and are whizzing about every day making sure everybody is ok and keeping the site spic and span.The scenery is beautifull and the facilities on site are spotless.I went with 2 kids under 5 and they had a great time playing in the rock pools and on the beach and then coming back to the tent and playing withh all the friends they met.There is a really special atmosphere on this site which i think jim and ishbel help to create,and you cannot fail to fall in love with this place,but I think we will have to start putting in bad reviews as we don't want to not get a pitch next time.........only kidding jim.Will be heading back up as soon as we can as this is the place to de-stress and chill out sooooooooooo good for your soul. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Just spent a week at Clachtoll for the second time. This site is fantastic and although has no direct facilities for children, the surrounding countryside is enough and allows children to play outdoors in a safe environment. Jim and Ishbel are very accommodating and make sure that you have a spacious pitch. The facilities are basic but clean and sufficient. The surrounding land/seascape is gorgeous and there is nothing more relaxing than sitting outside your tent with a glass of wine enjoying the sunset. Although the weather was dodgy on a couple of days I found this a good excuse to lie in the tent with a good book and admire the fantastic scenery. Jim and Isabell will go out of there way to ensure that you thourghly enjoy your time there. We pitched our tent in high winds and found about a dozen others helping us to ensure that we could get settled quickley, It is remote but WOW.... te beach is stunning, and the walks and sceneary just amazing I look forward to my return. Clachtoll Beach Campsite I came to Clachtoll in mid-June 2007 after a journey of 650 miles. I had seen the website and read the reviews and wanted to camp N W Scotland, with my dog. The area is outstanding - white sand beaches, azure seas, fantastic wildlife and so clean. The site had a relaxed atmosphere - I hate being regimented. No sooner than I pulled up than there was a genuine warm welcome from Jim and Ishbel. Over the time I was there I had frequent conversations with these folks who were so helpful without being obtrusive. The friendliness was something that made my stay - which I extended and wish I was still there now. I witnessed Jim helping campers to erect their tents and even do running repairs on a tent with a broken pole. Jim and Ishbel told me about local places to visit and these adventures added greatly to my enjoyment. The facilities were immaculate, in over 30 years camping I have never seen cleaner. Forget Rome, ignore New York, blow Paris - if you only go to one place in your life, visit Clachtoll!! Clachtoll Beach Campsite After a gruelling journey from Swansea, we were pretty stressed-out when we got to the site, but after a hearty welcome from Jim, we set up the caravan and awning, had a meal and a glass of wine,sat back looking at the view in front and just felt the tension drain away. That's the effect this wonderful place has on you, and whether it's fishing, walking, sketching or just chilling with a good book, you couldn't find a better place to do it. Jim and Ishbel are first-class hosts, everyone gets a welcome and a friendly chat, their sole aim being to make sure you enjoy your stay. The toilet and laundry block is kept spotless (surely the best guide as to how well a site is being run) The highlight for us was watching a school of dolphins frolicking in the bay, what a delight! We can't recommend this site highly enough, all of the good reviews are true. It might take intrepid people to journey so far for a bit of peace and quiet, but this is a special place and well worth the effort. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We made the 645 mile drive up for early June this year,the road leading to the site only hints at what will greet you on arrival,the view over Clachtoll beach is fantastic,the site was peacefull and quiet all week,with none of the dreaded midges? the facilities were modern and very,very clean,though we dont have children,we would imagine keeping them entertained would be painless. there is a wealth of information on display about the local area,and amenities. Clachtoll Beach Campsite The previous reviews seem too good to be true but until you experience this site you could not understand just how perfect it is. There are no formal ''Amusements'', but I have given it five stars as any kids on site spend all of their time outdoors and with a beach such as this they have the time of their lives. Jim and Ishbel really are as welcoming as previous reviews state but once again, you cannot appreciate it until you experience it as it is hard to believe how hard they work to make your stay enjoyable. My wife and I visited in early June and were reluctant to leave but we will be back again for a longer stay in August to do all the things that we didn't manage to fit in on the last trip. Clachtoll Beach Campsite we stayed at the site for a week at the begining of june, our only regret was that we had to come home.We have stayed at other sites as stunning as clachtoll, but never as relaxed and friendly as this one. The beaches are lovely and if you like to explore there is always some little treasure to find be it a bay or widlife.The shower blocks and laundry facilities are excellent and kept immaculate. Ishbel and Jim are two of the friendliest people you will ever meet and are always ther if you need them. We travelled 410 mile and it was well worth it. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We were there for the long bank holiday weekend in last week of May. Lovely place, clean toilets and shower. Jim and Isabell were very helpful and Jim helped us with the tent as well. Very handy for 1st time campers like us. This is a perfect place for a quite and well deserved holiday. I would rate it full for all the exisitng facilities. But, I have rated it 4 stars as it is a remote site and a need for a small shop with daily use items is a must. We were there early in summer and had absolutely no problem of midges. being next to the sea could also be the reason for no midges around. We will be back in summer for another round of tenting. Clachtoll Beach Campsite Visited on 1st of April 2007 and received warm welcome from Jim and Ishbel (even offered to help put up the tent ). Glorious location , immaculate site and very clean shower block (actually felt guilty trailing in sand). The wee coffee machine in the washing up area also a nice touch as the kids had a hot chocolate b4 bed. The beach is so close and we had 2 barbecues/bonfires as the sun set. Clachtoll Beach Campsite, SIMPLY WONDERFUL With a family with four kids and a cousin in tow, we arrived for the second year running in the first two weeks of August. This is truly the best site we have ever had the good fortune to stay at. On arrival you will notice a small sign instructing you to " park, pitch and relax " and that is exactly what this site is about. Jim and Ishbel are wonderful hosts that will take the time to meet and greet on arrival and also make a point of making contact at least once in a day if not more. Jim moves through the the campsite like a mini tornado making sure everything is kept in tip top condition, but also gives the time to stop and answer questions and also speak to all the kids who just seem to take to him. I have marked a five for facilities for kids, although there is no park or such like, there is a beautiful beach which will keep them entertained for hours if not days, on return to the site they will stop briefly to eat and then they will be off again making freinds or kicking a ball about or taking part some of the largest scaled hide and seek or tig games I have ever seen. This is an ideal location to get fresh air and just pure safe fun into your children. Facilities are second to none, spotlessly clean at all hours and sufficient as not to leave you waiting hours to get a shower. There are no nasty twenty pence meters on the showers and I am led to believe a laundry is to be added for next year. Location, All I need to say is, stunning. Bring good walking boots and this geological wonder of the world is your oyster. Value for money, Again I cannot fault this, The money that you part with to wake up each morning to those views is paltry compared to the memories you will take home with you. We will be back next year without fail. We will also be crafting some sturdy tent pegs and an extra strong wind break, this is the west coast of Scotland and as such can get ever so breezy. Clachtoll Beach Campsite When you are in the business, so to speak, as we are with an eight bed hostel and four - yes 'four' pitch camping ground in the Cairngorms and you go, however rarely, absent for a couple of nights you get to seeing other providers' work from both sides. We chose the location of the second of our two mini breaks for this Summer solely on the excellence of the reports appearing on this website. We were not disappointed. With friends up from Wales this September the two campervans set off for Clachtoll. While the neighbouring land for static caravans is either developing its facilities or standing still maybe, the campsite Jim and Ishbel own and run is moving fast to allow their visitors the very best experience possible. Their own brand of welcome and cheery attentiveness is infectious and just has to impact on others who come to stay with them. The adjacent beach is stunning and the restored salmon fishing bothy which houses an exhibition of the life and work of the adventurous Scots minister, Rev Norman McLeod is just the perfect place to sit in or by with a good book. The beach itself is a total winner, particularly at dawn. The lochans above nearby Stoer, Jim tells us, jump with fish. Not that day they didn't but we're learning. No need to dwell on the pristine toilet and shower facilities; they are just that and the best you will find anywhere. Just consider where this is and how the ravages of winter storms can bite hard. Grass is precious this far north and west in Scotland and Jim cares for it as if it were a championship golf course. The proving of our own reactions glowed in the faces of our camping neighbours. Clachtoll Beach Campsite excellent site, the staff are so friendly, we were sent the wrong way by the AA, and had a nightmare of a drive but within 10 minutes of setting up the relaxation began. the on site facilities are not super however they are very clean and are being up-graded for next year i beleive. outside shower after the beach was a nice touch. great for kids as the beach is very safe, clean and very close to you pitch. just go and relax but please stay on the main road especially if you are towing! Clachtoll Beach Campsite I have,in 50 years of camping pitched the tent in locations as stunning as Clachtoll, but never on a site as welcoming and well run as this. Knowing the area quite well,I arrived in my campervan intending to spend a couple of nights but stayed for six.As other reviewers have stated the welcome by Jim and his wife could not be more friendly and helpful. They obviously love Clachtoll and their site and they do everything possible to ensure that visitors share their enjoyment. The whole site is immaculate and the ammenities block is spotless.There are no rules and regulations,just polite requests.Each sink has a folded jay-cloth and a request that sinks be wiped after use,a request that appeared to be responded to by 'all'. Another nice touch is the jar of sugar and tea-spoons next to the hot drinks dispenser. I believe that next year,the amenities will be enhanced by the opening of a laundry/drying room. This must be an ideal site for families with a safe,sheltered sandy beach two minutes away,although if an evening stroll to the pub is a must, Clactoll is not the place for you. On entering the site,you are greeted by a sign saying Park,Pitch and Relax-Well you can certainly do that and never want to go home. I shall certainly be returning to 'relax' next year! Clachtoll Beach Campsite A simply lovely experience from start to finish! We made a beeline for the site based on the reviews we'd read and weren't disappointed in any way! Jim and Ishbel's hospitality was second-to-none and the facilities immaculate. The beautiful Clachtoll Beach is a stone's throw away and although there are no formal facilities for children, there is space to play in, fresh air, and other kids to make friends with - it's a simple but wonderful combination and that's why I've given 'Facilities for kids' 5 stars! Clachtoll Beach Campsite From the moment we arrive to the moment we departed we felt a sense of relaxed belonging because of Jim's welcome and hospitality. The campsite is well appointed and in a fantastic location. It is well maintained and we appreciated the daily effort that went into keeping it clean and tidy. This will be our holiday venue for years to come as long as it is managed by Jim and his family. We highly recommend this site for those who want to settle in a campsite for more than a couple of days. Clachtoll Beach Campsite aka heaven! It was very hard to leave after a 13 night stay at this heavenly place . Jim and Ishbel are certainly the nicest, most helpful wardens I've ever met during many camping years. Nothing is too much trouble for them in their quest to help you have a great time.The location is superb, quiet, calm and relaxing with views to die for! The beach is beautiful with safe bathing, spectacular rock formations and silver sand. The facilities are clean and well thought out. Having a disability I often find camping difficult but as the sight has a disabled persons loo and shower room it made life much easier for me. My partner, dog and I will be returning in the spring to recharge our batteries again. We'd go back tomorrow if we could! Clachtoll Beach Campsite Thanks to Jim and his wife for being so friendly and helpful (the friendliest owners we have yet encountered). The free toilets/showers were spotlessly clean as was the site which is just a few minutes walk from a beautiful bay, white sands, blue sea, safe for bathing. Jim welcomed us to his little piece of paradise and he was not wrong. We have given kids facilities 5 stars, there is nothing formal here but space, sand sea and room for a healthy imagination to flourish. A lovely ride from Lochinver which provided everything we needed, we found the area very interesting on the days we left the camp, however, it was delightful to just be on the beach for the day, barbeque and totally relax. We agree with a previous review, the atmosphere was good for the soul. (Thanks Jim for loan of the wet suit - I'll bring my own next year - or sooner if possible!!). Clachtoll Beach Campsite Quite simply the best site we've been to, due in no small part to Jim & Ishbels true Highland hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they even lent us "serious" tent pegs when we almost lost our tent in some high winds. The loos etc are amongst the cleanest I have ever seen and not just on a campsite. The only reason I haven't given 5* for kids facilities is that I wouldn't want to mislead people who expect swing parks etc for the kids. As far as mine are concerned a beach with enough waves to boogie board and maybe a bit of ground for a kick about is all they really need. We will be back (with stronger tent pegs!) A little piece of heaven This is a tricky one ... Clachtoll is special because of its peace and tranquility. So why would I want to tell the world about it? Because Clachtoll is good for the soul. The most stunning location, where the silence really is golden and the views are to die. And there's more! The facilities are first rate, thanks to Jim and his wife - the perfect hosts. Long may they reign at Clachtoll's helm. The tourist information centre at nearby Lochinver has a Hugh Webster postcard of the view of Clachtoll beach from the campsite. I bought it and posted it to myself at the office so that whenever I get stressed I can go take a look at it on the noticeboard to remind me of my little piece of heaven. Clachtoll Beach Campsite have just returned from this campsite and one of the things to say about it is excellent. Jim and Ishbel were the wardens on duty and were really helpful and friendly. They greet you on arrival and departure and nothing is too much for them. The facilities on site (re toilets and showers) are spotless. The location of the site couldn't be better. You are a short walk to the beach and it is a beautiful lovely turquoise coloured sea and clean sand. Jim however will tell you water is roasting today for a swim (please take this figuratively) as its cold but great way to have fun especially with the kids. There is loads of scope for walks as well in the area with some spectacular views. We went here for a real relaxing holiday and thats exactly what it was and the kids loved it. Only thing to take note of is that bread is only delivered to the shops on Monday/Wednesday/Friday so make sure you have some in case their out of it. But all in all a great place that i cannot recommend highly enough. Clachtoll Beach Campsite We visited this campsite with our family for the second time in early June 2006. This is a small friendly campsite suitable for anything between famillies and backpackers. The owners are very friendly and are based at the site, and so take a personal interest in ensuring you are comfortable and happy with your stay. As soon as you set foot on the site you get a personal welcome. If you have any queries about the local area and facilities, the owners are pleased to help you out. The failities are quite new and are kept immaculately clean. There are new power/water hook up points on site. The location is fantastic with an excellent beach/bay just about 200 metres from the site. The owners work full time on maintaining the campsite and a programme of continual improvements. The location is fairly remote, quiet and relaxing. The atmoshere on site is relaxed, informal and friendly with a good mix of famillies, individuals, national tourists and international tourists. The area and campsite has plenty of wildlife and the Clachtoll rangers hut and slamon bothy are only 100 metres from the site(interest for both adults and children). The campsite has a new improved website. Communication with the campsite is swift/good with contact best made by e-mail(e-mail address is on the website). When camping do bear in mind that the campsite is on the coast and is exposed to the elements. If the wind gets up, you will need all of your tent pegs. If you need access to local shops you will need transport from the campsite. The site next door has some newish static caravans. My only worry is that if the area is developed further, the tranquil setting of the site could be spoiled. I recommend this campsite and will be visitting again in August 2006. Clachtoll Beach Campsite A 'jewel' of the north west. Found this site on the Net. Made contact and a very 'laid back' James Galway' and with 'no trouble' we were booked up. Arrived in brilliant sunshine to 'take your pick of pitches'. Our hosts Jim and Ishbel could not do enough to make our stay both welcome and memorable. Their new toilet facilities are superb and their attention to cleanliness and detail to be commended. A new venture for them and their hard work is already paying dividends. Local Scots folks or foreign to our shores all received the best of help and attention. Nothing was too much trouble to this couple. We have travelled to the four corners of Scotland with our caravan and this 'little jewel' is one we shall be returning too. For touring by car or walking this must be one of the best areas to visit. Nearby Lochinver and its famous pies looked after any of our shopping needs and a day trip to Achiltibuie and a recommendation from Jim for the seafood platter at the Summer Isles Hotel was 'icing on the cake' for a most wonderful and memorable visit to this 'Jewel of the North-West'. We shall return......... Clachtoll Beach Campsite Wonderfully situated site. Small secluded beautiful beaches, white sand, turquoise water. Gannets diving, rabbits as big as corgis and the constant song of skylarks. If you want burgers, booze and bands don't come here. Stunning sunsets and perfect peace good for the soul. Great for kayaking and walking. Interesting remains to be seen of crofting 'lazy bed' cultivation and salmon fishing. Nothing was too much trouble for the site owners, who are working hard to constantly improve the site. Had a very enjoyable and all too brief stay, but I shall be back. enjoy We have just spent four nights at the camp site, when we arrived we just pitched our tents and set up camp,it was a relaxed atmosphere if you wanted it to be, or you could take the few minutes walk to the beach and surf or make sand castles if you wish.
