Mortonhall Caravan Park Edinburgh
We stayed 3 nights in a wigwam in July. It was a pleasant surprise. Electric kettle, fridge and freeview TV! It was warm and quiet and very comfortable for 3 people. My only critisism and it's easily rectified is that when we arrived on the Friday they said the site was quite so only 2 shower blocks were open. If that was quite I can't imagine what busy must be like! Unfortunately this meant long queues in the morning - 40 mins! Which bites into your day a good bit. The staff at the Stable Bar next door were friendly and there was a good choice of meals. Bus service was easy to use so our car never moved the whole weekend! We'll definately be back.

Marked pitches for tents and camper vans are assigned, using remote cameras to check the actual space from the reception office. Sometimes too cramped for a family tent + car, less than the legal 6 m distance in between tents, So get to know your fellow campers. Meanwhile, carry one of the picknick benches over to your own pitch. At present (Aug 08) after a lot of rain and flooding they only accept people who booked. Building of hard pitches has begun so you won't have to wait for the tractor to drag your caravan from the mud. Be sure to take your wellies. I assume better drainage is planned. Also, there still are too few showers but they are free! The location remains ideal for visiting Edinburgh, either by bus or car, and the camping is a comfortable 3 hours drive from the ferry at Newcastle.

Have been going for three years now and love it! It is ideal for seeing Edinburgh. You just hop on the bus that is every 20 mins just outside site! Even when it is very busy there is still loads of room for all.

We stayed at this site for 3 nights in Aug 2005, and would definately recommend it especially if you're heading into Edinburgh City Centre which is a short bus ride away (buses stop directly outside entrance to site). Staff were friendly and helpful. My only criticism would be the shower area which isn't big enough, and more showers are required. If you can live with that, then this site is perfect!

Moreton Hall Campsite
This was a very clean and well ordered site within easy commuting distance of Edinburgh. The visitors were certainly multinational and very friendly. The site was well managed and efficient. I can only praise the check-in procedure and helpful maps provided. The bar was smashing, the food I cannot comment on but looked wholesome and popular. Our only criticism is that there were not enough toilets and showers for the number of visitors. (Beginning of August and the Edinburgh Festival and V Busy.) There were even queues for the facilities at 1045pm every night we were there! provide another toilet block and it would warrant 5 stars.
