As of 2009 there is now an official campsite on the Island at Balinoe. The site welcomes all campers, whether in tents or motorhomes, and has a variety of sized pitches with tent pitches in small screened areas. It has standard toilet and shower facilities along with a well equipped camper’s kitchen and Wi-Fi access. Centrally located it offers easy access to the other parts of the Island along with great views out to Mull and the Treshnish Isles. Wild tent camping is welcomed on the island of Tiree as long as it is done responsibly, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Please access the following webpage for further information on Tiree and wild camping - http://www.isleoftiree.com/history-nat-heritage.html. Please note bookings are essential. Bookings can be made by emailing info@wilddiamond.co.uk (or through the email facility below) with the dates you require and number of people/tents.

Balinoe Campsite - Isle of Tiree
This was a very nice campsite - good pitches, lots of space, good location, nice and peaceful. It was great to have a wee kitchen/dining bit to hide from midgies and the rain. this had a cooker, fridges (very useful), and a washing machine. Shower/toilet facilities were very poor - one proper shower/toilet, two portashowers, two portaloos- we never saw them being cleaned during our 4-night stay. That would be my only complaint about this campsite - it was good otherwise.

Thanks for your generally positive review. On the one negative, cleaning of facilities, our campsite is services daily by a member of our staff and every two days by a private contract cleaning company. The cleaning takes place generally during antisocial hours so that there is no disruption to campsite services for guests. I hope that this answers your complaint... Thanks William

Smallish campsite good tent pitches, some hard standing for campervans but no electric hookup I could see. Limited facilities only one shower/toilet which struggles to cope. Nice well equipped kitchen area with two small dining areas. Tiree is very windy and there is very little shelter in the campsite or anywhere else, be prepared. Only two bars on the island one in Scarnish, the other at Gott bay (5 & 6 miles from campsite). Very good co-op in Scarnish no problem with supplies.

We intend to build an independent toilet and shower block for 2010 to increase our capacity for visiting campers and to provide a better all round service. Tiree is indeed a very windy place (part of its draw for visiting watersports enthusiasts!) but we are attempting to build new pitches on the campsite for 2010 with screening built specifically to assist visiting campers with tents. We hope that this will provide some additional shelter from the elements! Enquiries for 2010 should be directed to info@wilddiamond.co.uk or 077121 59205
