The Pickaquoy Centre Caravan and Camping Park
We were booked into Stromness for 3 nights but passed Pickquoy on the way so decided to look round. Excellent location close to supermarket and high street. Leisure Centre is next door as is outdoor playing area. We stayed and will be back soon. 12 shower/toilet cubicles, sitting room and dishwashing/laundry facilities all seem new and spotless clean. My wife didn't like camping until the visit here. Well done all. I'm going again in 2 months time. Plenty to do in Orkney. Don't tell too many people though, keep it to yourself.

We visited at the end of june, and loved the site and the island. The best facilities on any site we have ever visited in UK and in Eurpoe. Spotlessly clean all the time. Even has a lounge for tenters wanting a comfy seat, and somewhere to socialise. Shelterd site, as it can be windy. Shops and ferries very near, short walk into Kirkwall town.

Just back from this campsite and could not fault it in any way, ultra clean and modern facilities, very helpful staff, very good space for each pitch/caravan. Shops in a bundance just down the road. What a place Orkney is, lots to do and see for all ages and plan to return in the very near future. Everybody should see this great island.

We visited this site in Aug 2005 and quite honestly I am wondering if it was the same site other reviewers visited! It is soulless and expensive, a long and dull walk into town and the "facilities" are actually a leisure centre which you have to share with the general public. Go to the one in Stromness instead. It's lovely, has the basics (all clean), has fantastic views and seals nearby.

Immaculate park, immaculate facilities. Very close to town, supermarkets, pubs etc. This site deserves 5* not the puny 3* it has attained. We shall be back every year.

Well now its 2007 and im on my way back. what will I find i wonder, if rumours are to be believed not a lot has change with regard to facilities. It seems that the council could not find the money to complete the project this year, what a shame. On Site security is another problem that I suggest needs to be redressed. However I look forward to seeing what has been done. Watch this space in August

A Site Worthy of the Councils Development
With 2005 being the third year for me to visit this site, it was nice to see that the council has began its development of the site. Whilst it may not appear that much is being done at the present time, with just tempory facilities being added, my curiosity has led me to discover that there is a major reconstruction in the pipeline which is just waiting for the councils final approval. As the saying goes 'everything comes to him that waits'. I am certainly waiting with anticipation of the final outcome to what must surely be a magnificent site in the future, and yes, this year 2006, I shall be back to cast my beady eye over the goings on, for I love this site, which is ideally situated for visiting the town and the historic places that Orkney provides. O and YES the magnificent fishing. The hospitality that Orcadians provide is also to be treasured, as for me it is like being home. To the team leaders of the venture may I wish you success in providing the facilities that I know that you want. Hwyl (cheers} from this wandering Welshman

Re Pickaquoy Caravan and Camping Site Kirkwall review
I agree with the review, but would like to add that being on the edge of Kirkwall its 5 minutes from the centre so no problem there. Also it gets VERY BUSY during the summer so make sure you book ahead well ahead of ime......

Pickaquoy Centre Camp Site, Kirkwall 2005
We have stayed at this site twice, both times in May. It is a nice quiet site, within walking distance to the town. There is also a supermarket nearby. The facilities are very clean although there were occasional problems getting hot water. I understand this is being rectified and will be better next season. This is a good site for touring Orkney which has a lot to offer espcecially if you are interested in history. I would recommend this site
