Touring site for caravans and campervans. Located 3 miles from Kinlochleven on the road south to Glencoe. Quiet site in a lovely location on the shore of Loch Leven. Whilst we don't have a specific area we do allow campfires as long as they are not on the grass (plenty room on the shore) and a lot of our visitors like to have fires and BBQs there.

Caolasnacon Caravan and Camping Park
Camped here for the first time for 5 nights from 20th May 2012. A well located site on the south bank of Loch Leven. It is possible to camp right next to the loch if required. £10 p.n. is very reasonable given the sites proximity to Glencoe, where camping can cost £18+. One can walk directly up to the Aonach Eagach ridge and the Pap of Glencoe from the site, though there is no path and its tough going. Two minor quibbles; the light switch in the Gents toilet is well away from the door and almost impossible to find in the dark (users are requested to turn the lights out when leaving) and there is no sink for hand-washing in the laundry. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and will probably visit again.

This was an amazing campsite. The facilities were just what we needed whilst camping. The showers were hot and powerful and there was a number of them and also toilets. The beach is beautiful and we had a campfire. The weekend we stayed it rained most of it and it was also very windy, so much that when we arrived back from walking the Pap that the tent and all our belongings had disappeared. the owners of the campsite had noticed that the tent had blown down on to the beach and they took all are stuff and kept it safe until we returned. Even re pitched the tent in a more sheltered area. What service.

Just returned from another excellent weekend, this time we stayed in one of the sites statics. The accomodation was well equipped and clean and the view from the windows was breathtaking. Having now stayed on site in tents touring caravan and a static i think that i will certainly be trying the statics out again. We chose a static set apart from the others up a small bank to give splendid views of the loch, it felt for the most part like we were the only people on site as the view from the front didnt look out onto anyone else only mountains and the loch to look at, perfect. There are also a number of statics available to accomodate people with dogs. I will definitely be returning as soon as i can. I can highly recommend the statics, wich sleep 6, but no matter what mode of accomodation its well worth a visit, anyone who appreciates beautiful scenery will love this place.

Visited this fantastic site again a couple of weeks ago with motorbike and tent. Scenery amazing. Weather was mixed but it doesn't matter. Had a telescopic rod with me and caught fish for the bbq on the shore. I try to visit as often as i can and will be coming back soon with the caravan and family. For me it beats every " 5 star " holiday park. See you soon.

Just back from yet another great weekend at this campsite. Two of the days were in torrential rain but even that couldn't dampen our enthusiasm. The scenery is spectacular whatever the weather and on Sunday I had the privilege of being escorted up the loch in my kayak by a couple of very inquisitive seals! The site was quite busy but there's ample room for everyone and it never feels crowded. We'll be back next month

I adore this site, it must be one of the most beautiful in Scotland. I go back as often as i can. I have both camped and stayed in a touring caravan on this site and really enjoyed both. The midgies can be a problem but thats the highlands no escaping. I find that citronella candles, skin so soft and a good midgie hood make life more bareable. The facilities on this site complement the remote feel to it and i think that upgrading and creating childrens play parks etc would take some of the magic away. Sites like this are rare jewels these days i really hope it never changes !

I disagree with a couple of these comments. I have been going to this campsite since i was about 9 year old and i loved it more every time i went. We would play in the water, visit the waterfall and have a laugh. There may not be much facilities but the scenery is stunning and there is sooo much to do if you set your mind to it. I am going back this month and am desperate to see if everything is the same :) Best campsite about. Would live there if i could :D

We only had time for one night at this site. It was the first time we had stayed in our new VW Camper van and this site is breathtaking! Loch Leven is one of my favourite places, The views of the Pap of Glencoe and Mamore mountains are magnificent. There was a rope swing for the kids but our littlest had enough fun throwing stones in the water and our older child just loved cycling round. Very relaxed atmosphere - nice mix of caravan and tent users and facilities were clean. You are quite close to Kinlochleven which has the excellent climbing centre and cafe and some really nice walks. We will definitely be back

This is our favourite campsite of all. Only two hours from Glasgow but a completely different world. The views are magnificent, the owners relaxed and the loch just magical. We get up there as often as we can and that's not often enough.. given a choice I'dn! live there! If you haven't been, go and I guaarantee you'll go again and again.

Just back from 4 nights at this fantastic campsite. Owner was very friendly and helpful and just told us to pitch anywhere we wanted. Camped only a few metres from the shores of the loch with breathtaking views. Weather was mixed but then again we're in Scotland. Our 8 year old son had a great time fishing, playing on his bike and exploring with new friends. Campfires allowed on the beach if you wanted.Toilet and shower facilities were adequate. No shop but Kinlochleven and Glencoe just down the road.Lots to do in the surrounding areas. Wish there were more sites like this. Will definately be back here soon.

Just back from a fantastic few days at this site. Midges were a nightmare and we are bitten alive!!! Saying that, the scenery more than made up for the bites..... It is a beautiful setting where we enjoyed a loch side camp fire and then a bbq of the fish we caught. Facilities need upgrading though as the dishwashing sink was falling apart and was often left dirty by fellow campers which was disappointing. Nothing for the children to do so I suggest a small play park be built and then it would be amazing all round.

Probably the most beutiful setting in Scotland, certainly the best we have ever visited. I gave the "facilities for kids" only one star as a swinging rope from a tree is the only play facility as such, however, the site is paradise for kids to run about free and to make their own adventure. The faciilities for campers are all there and most of the time clean, but by comparison with other sites in the area, are very dated and basic. That said, we have been back at least eleven times over the years. Our opinion is that although a cheap site, we would be prepared to pay more per night for more modern facilities in such a good location and therefor only give 2 stars for value. P.S. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

You couldnt have more beautiful scenery than this site. We were met by very friendly lady at 10pm at night who said we could pitch where ever we wanted. Only downside was it was pitch black and there was no lighting on the site. The midgies were horrendous, we were all bitten alive, but we did forget to take our Avon skin so soft. We had a lovely camp fire on the shore, which quite a few people did. The scenery is quite breathtaking, very peaceful site. Toilet and shower blocks could do with some upgrading, I do understand from the owner its as close to wild camping as you can get, but it would have been nice to have better shower facilities. Fantastic seafood shop and restaurant on the other side of the loch very reasonable prices. We had bag of squat lobsters for £2.

This year was our 2nd visit to this campsite, a lot cheaper than others in the region! Very clean toilet blocks. We paid £8 for a tent, a car and 2 people.

Caolasnacon Caravan Site Nr Kinlochleven
We found this site easily after the drive up from Edinburgh. We were greeted by a very helpful and cheery owner who told us we could pitch wherever we wanted. This is always a plus point for us as we prefer unregimented sites. Have to agree with the other reviewers that the location is beautiful. A nice breeze off the water helped keep the midges at bay...useful as Avon Skin So Soft is NOT 100% effective! Whilst all the basic facilities are available and clean and tidy, we did feel that just one sink for dishwashing was insufficient, given the size of the site. The Co-Op in Kinlochleven is handy for supplies but be prepared to queue as it gets busy with walkers from the West Highland Way (and it's not a very big store). Apart from a rope swing on one of the trees there didn't seem to be any organised activities/facilities for kids...this resulted, during our stay for sure, in a group of kids running riot around the site throughout daylight hours. If your nerves and fuel tank can stand it, resist refuelling at Tyndrum and wait until you get to Glencoe...unleaded petrol is 4p a litre cheaper! (Prices correct at time of posting!)

Having visited here since a child, I may be somewhat biased towards Caolasnacon. Having said that, I have brought my family and still want to visit again. The area is beyond desciption, and those who have not visited here yet, do not know what they are missing! If you can, pay Caolasnacon a visit. You will not be disappointed!

Excellent site
This is the most beautiful location you can imagine for a campsite. Having camped at Caolasnacon many times over the past fifteen years I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. There is such amazing mountain and loch scenery - you will find yourself awed by the sheer size of the hills above the site. On a practical level the site has everything you need and is run by very friendly people who are always happy to help. There is so much to do in the area you could easily spend a fortnight. Since gaining a toddler in the family we have recently been back and this time we stayed in one of the site caravans rather than our old tent. This worked out very well as it was so clean, well equipped and fun. Our daughter couldn't wait to go to bed in her little bedroom - she was so excited about staying in the caravan. She also loved running about the site and playing at the waters edge. I hope we will camp again in future when she is bigger but for just now we are converts to caravans!

Land of the midges!!
We have stayed on this site twice, the first time when we had mechanical problems with our motorhome. Loved the site so much we returned the following year. It was great to be able to camp on the loch-side as we have an inflateable boat and outboard so it was easy launching.Strong currents in the loch. Midges are really bad, apparently Avon Skin So Soft works a treat. Good facilities, friendly owners and excellent prices. Absolutely stunning views. No need to pre-book, there is always room.

Peace and Quiet
My family and I have been here numerous times. I'll never forget the first time we came the views took our breath away. It was like a scene from Braveheart :o). Anyway, if you're looking for a basic but clean and friendly base for exploring the surrounding area's of Glencoe, Fort William and Kinlochleven look no further. The caravans are clean and tidy and well equipped and the shower rooms are also clean and tidy. If you're looking for an away from it all base, this is it. Stores can be obtained from Kinlochleven where there is a Co-op, or Glencoe village where there is a general store. I love coming here but the kids aren't as keen, they say there's nothing to do!!! I say TOUGH !! It's about time they used their imagination more. They can climb around the rocks, play on the shore or play 'armies' in the bracken (tell them to wear long pants and watch out for tics). Like I say it's a lovely place, basic but clean and very peaceful. Hope you think so too.
