Our view: Visited in 2005 and we really enjoyed this site. Owners are very customer focused. There also appears to be a group of regular visitors who are very welcoming and helpfull. Working croft setting with chickens and the farm dogs onsite. Some of the visitors

I came here every year between the ages of 7 and 22 with my parents and have taken my eldest daughter there some years back. Such happy memories of the beach and the tidal islands, running freely over the rabbit hills, splashing in the spring tides, walking up to the old Cnoc-na-faire hotel to buy our sweeties, kayaking round the bay and fishing for mackerel. It's a lovely, straightforward campsite with amazing views of Eigg and Rhum and an incredible location on the edge of the Atlantic. I live in the SE now so very hard to get up there & I still think about Portnadoran each year when the school holidays come round. Glad to see so many other people are enjoying it still. Must get back someday.

Just returned from portnadoran campsite and already booked up for next year. Scenery amazing, Beaches are beautiful and the water is so blue.Excellent location right beside the beach. Campsite facilities pretty basic and a small charge for the hot showers and dishwashing water. Ernie the guy in charge is absolutely fantastic and helpful in every way. Regular visitors staying at the campsite are very friendly and make you feel so welcome. Kids had a fantastic time. Only downside was that 2 campers complained constanly if people even walked past their tent and a crowd of inconsiderate campers who thought that partying to 3 in the morning outside their tents every night was ok. But apart from that the week was excellent.

Just returned from an amazing weekend at this campsite. The location of, and views from, Portnadoran are simply breath-taking. The campsite boasts a few private beaches and is a short walk from Cnoc-Na-Faire (a fantastic pub with very tasty food) and a slightly longer walk from the town of Arisaig. What impressed us most about the campsite is the assistance we received from the owner, Ernie, and a fellow camper when our tent failed us and hour into our stay. Their repairwork allowed us to stay for the two nights in our tent (rather than spending them in the car). We were also impressed that the owners did not over-crowd the campsite. We highly recommend this campsite!

I feel putting 2 stars against kids faicilities is not right as you dont need them on this site the beach is the playing ground for them who needs swings! We had a majical experience here , I say every one should stay up here at least once in there life time, very friendly welcome from owners and the "regulars" they all seem to know each other which I liked .Would love to put a caravan up here. |In saying that if every one who said that did it it might spoil the majic. We will be back soon, very clean & all you need .

Seems unfair to give 3 stars for kids facilities but there isnt much in the way of climbing frames and games, but lets be honest, who the hell needs it all when you have a beach as good as that. You could spend all day just wandering up and down in the shallow waters. It is just ideal if you have kids of any age, great for launching a canoe, paddling or walking the dog. Owners are very helpful, not in your face but there if you need some help. Statics available should you prefer. The shower in the spearate block isnt great but the one in the toilet block is a lot better. Bit of a fight for freezer space to refreeze you cool blocks. Loads to do in surrounging areas. Fort William about an hour drive with beautiful places along the way. We had an amazing week and will certainly be back.

I wouldn't know where and how to start in praising this site. We took a blind guess and made a few phone calls and ended up in a static in Portnadoran! We could NOT have found a better place to spend a weeks holdiay! Facilities? Kid's play area? Trust me, it's right there..............it's the most fantastic beach I have come across in the UK! And then, there's Ernie ..... Doesn't matter what you need or want, just ask him and he'll do his utmost to help you (Ernie, thanks for the whisky Ernie, got a bottle on the way back!) Just don't let him see that you are reading a book :-) (He'll tell you about that, I am sure) Let me just say thanks for a wonderful week that kept my 6year old exceptionally happy !!!

Second visit to Portnadoran, in June 09 for 1 week, was fantastic. Very lucky with the weather, got to swim and relax on the beach! Kids loved it, met many friends and had hours of fun on the beach and the rock pools. Beautiful views. Will def be back this year, if we can get booked!!!!!

Top class site very clean and friendly. We spent 2 nights in AUG 09. No play park on site BUT the magnificent beach and rock pools more than made up for this. The kids and the dog (and me) had a great time. Everyone was really friendly and we will definately go back. Take change for dishwashing and showers 10p, 20p and 50p. A must visit site .

My husband and I and our 3 collies spent an idyllic week at the site in late June 09. The weather was kind, the scenery fantastic and the sea great fun! Expect the facilities to be basic and you won't be disappointed but that was of little importance when everything else about the place was fantastic. Sunsets to die for! We will be back.

In contrast to the review below we found the bathroom facilities to very clean for a basic site(we were there at the same time). It was clear to see they'd been cleaned at least 3 or 4 times a day. Yes - the shower pressure left something to be desired but in such a beautiful location is the pressure of showers really the most important thing to you?!? There may not be manmade facilities for children - if there were I'm sure they'd be deserted! The beach, rocks & pools kept children of all ages amused for days not just hours! Even usually stroppy teenagers spent hours climbing, exploring and swimming. For teenagers reluctant to leave technology & contact with the "real" world behind them we were suprised to find a strong mobile phone signal! It was with out a doubt worth the 8 hour drive to get there - we'll certainly be back!

We've just returned from a fortnight at Portnadoran. The site itself is small and has a real neighbourly/community feel about it. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. The beach was only about 50 metres from our pitch and was absolutely beautiful. The sunsets at night are not done justice by the pictures shown as they are truly stunning. There are the usual washing facilities, however I feel the showering facilities were the only thing that let the site down. It was 20p for 2 mins hot water, and this wasn't always guarenteed, the water pressure wasn't great either. They could have also been kept a bit cleaner. This aside, we had a fantastic time and would definately go back in the future You can get your basics from the local Spar in Arisaig and mostly everything else from the shops in Mallaig which was about 7 miles up the road. For the takeaway lovers, you have to go to Mallaig; there are chippy's, indian and lots of restaurants. Not much on site for kids, so if there not fans on playing on the beach/rockpools etc, would sugget taking things to keep them amused. All in all, it is a lovely part of the world, plenty of hikes and walks, ferry trips and relaxing drives to enjoy.

spent just one night here last August, a weekend of glorious sunshine. pitched up and went for a swim in the turquoise sea. watched the sunset sitting on the rocks (great for kids to run about and explore) looking over to Rhum. facilities were fine, good ground for pitching, friendly reception. cycling distance to Loch Morar. One of those short trips away that makes you've feel you've had a week's rest.

One of the best campsites for a family holiday. The beach and the walks, the sunsets and the MacDonalds. They have been doing this for 40 years or more so they should be good at it by now. And the description is accurate very customer oriented and very good with kids. Have not been for many years now (30 or so years but went many times as a kid. And we all still talk about those holidays in Arisaig. I remeber being told that Portnadoran was gaelic for "home of the otter" by old man MacDonald too. I will be back soon with my wife and kids (chinese) from Beijing to show them what dad used to do. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did and you will.

We wre a bit worried about toilet facilities after reading some reviews but everything was fine. Very clean and about 3 showers. Take change for showers and hot water for dishwashing though!! Brilliant, friendly site, close to beach, lots of rocks for the kids to climb, rock pooling, and adventures to be had! We'll be back. Alistair is a wind up merchant and kept teasing us, although he turned the rain off and sent the sunshine. The wind kept the midges away.

my partner and i were there in august this year, i had visited morar years ago and thought it was the most pleasant place to be but when i suggested to jim to go he wasn't sure and then when we got there he thought he was in heaven, it is so peacefull and the sea is to die for, we came all the way from ayr and the journey was long but worth it, we thought the staff were great and we were placed right at the adge of the cliff in front of ernie's caravan whom i must say <hi ernie> is really a very nice guy, and full of stories, we are hoping to get back up there this year hope to see you all, joan and jim

We started visiting Portnadoran 8 years ago, initially with a tent but have now moved up to a caravan and would probably put a static there if we could. We might consider ourselves regulars, but we probably need to clock up another 10-20 years to join that club! With the spectacular views, freedom to roam for kids, welcoming atmosphere, sandy beaches ( and don't forget the fishing in Loch Morar ) I can't see any reason why we won't be coming back until we are among the regulars.

What a fantastic place, we had to book very last minute after being bitterly disappointed by another site in the area and we could not have been made more welcome. The site is basic but beautifully maintained and the views are to die for!! The beach was literally seconds from our tent and was fabulous for swimming, paddling and rock pooling. We were even treated to the sight of porpoises just off the coast!

Our family have been camping here for a number of years now and I can honestly say that my children, 11 & 8, constantly ask 'when are we going back?' Absolutely stunning part of the world which you should NEVER visit.... as it will be spoilt by hoards of tourists. Many of the caravaners and campers, like us, are regulars and all go back for the same reason - scenery, wildlife, golden beaches and fine, fine company.

Put simply, cant wait to go back. Everything about this site was well worth the 10 hour journey we had to get there. If it was closer would site van there. People on site made us feel welcome, even gave us some of the fresh rainbow trout caught at Loch Morar. Best advice i can give is dont go there, (I might not get on next time if you all go), Stunning views

Been a regular for the past twenty odd years and can't fault this site.it had expanded many years ago to accomodate demand as in the height of summer this is the only site in the area which regularly has a SITE FULL sign up at the entrance.this speaks volumes with people from all over britain returning year after year.electric hook-ups available and it has two toilet blocks, the newer of the two which is maybe now starting to show its age but is still in reasonable condition with regulars actually cleaning behind them as well as alistair.toilet block area also has large deep freezer which people trust for storing food, pub is less than 1 mile away at top of the hill but was better in the past as new owners have made it tacky.great location for boat owners and sea is spotless for swiming in if brave enough.and obviosly iam going back in less than 3mths
