Casual farm site close to Glencoe village (1.5 miles out of main street). By river Coe and ideal location from which to explore the attractions of the glen. The site is sited in 22 acres of woodland with a swimming hole and permit fishing on the river. Offsite places near river. Ideal for mountains, walks and nature. Large groups catered for Scouts, Schools etc - please book to avoid disapointment. Allows campfires upto 11:00 pm
Total pitches: 200
Pub within 1 mile
Open All Year round
Our view: Believed to get a little noisy at the weekend after the Clachaig Inn closes. Allows open fires on the site up to 11pm.

Red Squirrel Camp Site Glencoe
We visited the Red Squirrel Campsite at the weekend. The plus points are fantastic scenery, lovely campsite, the cosy Clachaig Inn just up the road, the basic but clean facilites, and the friendly and helpful staff. We also liked that you could have a campfire as so few sites allow this. However, there were other users of the campsite who played loud music until 11pm, and others who were shouting and generally beng noisy into the small hours. This would be a great site if you were out for a weekend walking with friends, but we were there with 3 children who found it difficult to get over to sleep with all the noise going on around them. If you're planning on having a fire, try and take some wood along with you as the site has been scavenged clean of any firewood.

We stayed here for just the one night on our 'Grand Tour' of Scotland (we payed for two) The scenery was utterly STUNNING!!!!! The toilet facilities were very basic, but on-the-whole, clean. Our children simply loved having the chance to roast marshmallows over a real campfire It was a peaceful site in very dramatic surroundings (our favourite on the whole tour) The only downside really, was the Vampire-Midges-from-Hell!!!!! The midges were truly HORRIFIC! (and the reason we sadly didn't stay the second night) Avon SSS applied by the bucketful didn't stop the blitters for long - we all looked like we'd got the measles - we had midge bits everywhere! ....and I now know know that midges even like to feast when it's raining too - so no restbite from them (excuse the pun)

My husband and I arrived early evening midweek and were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and we were given the low down on the facilities. We were able to pitch our tent close to the river and far enough away from other tents. After pitching our tent we headed for the pub and enjoyed watching the hikers coming in for their refreshments after a long days walk. Five stars must be given to this site for the scenery as it is breathtaking. There was no noise at all and it was amazing to watch all the little campfires burn away into the night (well until 11pm anyways!) The toliets and showers are basic and you do have to pay for the hot water but it is a little price to pay to be able to sit back in your chair, open a beer and not give any thought to what's happening elsewhere! Midges were a nightmare and that's with all the SSS and Jungle Solutions etc... I simply wrapped myself up in a travel rug! A stunning site which we can't wait to get back to!

MIDGES, MIDGES, MIDGES, Avon skin so soft is a must, i did smell like a woman, but no one seemed to mind, this is a gem of a site, slightly lacking in modern toilets, but its not really a porblem. You wake up in the morning to the sound of the river, open your tent door and the view is breath taking. this isnt expensive, friendly and just generally a decent site. didnt have any noise when i was there. but unfortuanatly with todays society, no one cares and they make noise if they like. but this is the same of any site.

Mid-week and out of season this campsite is great. Fantastic views, a wide variety of pitches, fire-pits, the river Coe for swimming, and a good pub up the road (Clachaig Inn). The toilet facilties are basic but adequate, although they can get a bit overburdened during peak hours. However, at weekends we found the site beseiged by people looking for a quick, drunken away break. Groups of people making noise and singing and playing guitars (really badly) til the early hours, plus casualties being sick in the ditches. The warden tries to impose silence after 11pm by putting out the fires, but its a large site and you can't control that many people I guess. Still, a site worth visiting although I would try and avoid those really busy periods personally.

Spent two nights here on our way to and from much further North. We loved this place, and as we stayed both on a Monday and a Saturday night we got to see it fairly quiet and pretty busy. The midges weren't as bad as further North, and the bonus of this place is being able to have the fires. We didn't mind them being put out at 11 - we just felt sorry for the poor lad who had to do it - he seemed quite surprised that we didn't mind so please don't give them grief! The scenery is of course amazing and is probably the huge pulling factor for this place. It's definitely one of our top campsires now and we're already planning to return later in the year. The facilities are pretty basic but by no means unbearable. Only prob was on the sunday morning there was a fairly big queue for the ladies showers, but it was a busy weekend. Just a little tip - make sure you have the cash ready to pay - we didn't and the local shop cahrges 50p for cashback and the cash machine charges ?1.50 - you can pay by cheque but that also has a cost of 50p added on. Other than that - perfect!!!

Staff: Warden was friendly but not intrusive Facilities: Two (M & F) shower huts with 2 showers & 3 toilets in each - plus some portaloos (yuck!!). We went when it was quiet, so toilet/shower facilities were adequate but we feel if site had been busy it may have become a bit unsavoury. These are a bit of an eyesore as well, sadly Dish & clothes washing basins - large with hot & cold, but only one of each Drinking water taps located at various points There are no kids facilities - but why would you want any? (I have kids by the way) VFM: ?6.50 per adult & 50p for kids (under 12?) when we went - summer '06 Location: Glencoe - obviously unbeatable with breathtaking views. Pub, restaurant & shops all quite close. Clachaig Inn up the glen & Glencoe Village down the glen Firepits: Don't understand out by 11pm rule - spoils the fun, but at least you are allowed one. There was broken glass & litter round the pits near our tent, although the site appears to be clean overall. General: I would say to pack your midgie repellant but unfortunately it won't do you any good........there are just too many of them to be deterred. Wee devils. This is a basic site in a stunning location. To stay there is to become enamoured with the magic of Glencoe. It is a privilege and should be regarded as such.

This campsite is a balance of poor onsite facilities but stunning scenery. We had a great time, washed in the river Coe. The mountain scenery in some of the best in Scotland, great for climbers and walkers. A bit basic all round but we will def. be back this year!

Location is one of the best you will ever have even imagined. Facilities aren't the best but they're not the worst either. Stoned areas for camp fires is great. Parking well laid out and pitch anywhere good too. Only issue I've had wa son last visit one of the kids we were with came out of the river smelling of something, smeel lingered and we realised the overflow of the tank from the caravan site next door enters the river at the top end of the camp site, DO NOT camp there as it stinks and steer clear sadly of the beautiful River Coe. Staff were reluctant to warn campers of this area and after 4 days of saying they'd put up sign, didn't. If the site invested its income into its showers and toilets into a permanent and modern feature and sorted the river problem it would be the worlds greatest camp site!

Great Site
A long weekend spent camping rough in scotland is great but when the weather turned, my brothers and I stumbled upon redsquirrel. The thing that made it was being able to sit around a camp fire, afterall, thats what camping is about. A friendly natural place to get get a hot shower and chill out infront of a fire. What more could you ask for! Ive already planned my next visit.

A mixed experience
Due to the location the midgies were bad. So go prepared! The freedom to pitch anywhere is nice but that means anyone can pitch near you so we had some loud, drunk holidaying neds beside us. Being able to have a campfire is great except with no warning the warden comes round at 11pm and throws a big bucket of water on your fire. We planned to stay 2 nights and we stayed 1...

Great site
I have been using this site for more than ten years. Great position. Good facilities, if a bit worn. Dogs and kids allowed...(I take both mine). The river is great to sit and relax at while the kids play in the water, which as you would expect is crystal clear. The Clachaig Inn, a mile up the road, serves good hearty meals at a reasonable price. Beer and entertainment excellent. Fabulous walking for the timid and the adventurous all around. The only downside is it can get noisy until the early hours especially on bank holiday weekends (Scottish holidays). The management do appear to be trying to control this and you should not let it stop you coming here. This site and area are so good that we can't seem to get past it to the rest of Scotland!

good
this campsite is great for a relaxing trip into the wilderness. It has everything you would need (except for lack of washing machine/dryer....and on top of the campsite charge showers must also be payed for). However it is close to all other amienites (pub, shop, cash machine) but without the feeling of being near civilisation and it also allows you to have campfires (great for toasting those marsmallows on a summers night). All in all a great place to stay. I loved it and already have my next trip planned!

brilliant site!!! Gives you the best of both worlds. you can camp in a relaxed, natural environment while still enjoying the luxury of modern facilities. The showers could be a bit more up to date though, and they are not free. Also there are no washing facilities. Not brilliant for facillities but great for atmosphere!
